mainshaft rear bearing removal

I have a series 3 Landy, but i have a feeling my gearbox innards are series 2 (as i can't see any synchro for 1st/2nd).
Regardless, the front bearing was well shot, which i think was the cause of the rattle i had when i ran the gearbox, so I have replaced both front bearings.
It seems sensible to replace the rear bearing too, but that is where i am having issues.
i have removed the mainshaft from the housing, and the bearing came with the shaft.

I cannot get the bearing off.

I have removed one big circlip from the assembly, so there is no circlip on the outer side of the bearing (but there is a circlip on the inside side of the bearing, that is not easy to remove).

Am i right in thinking i need to apply (more) heat and hit it (more). My bearing pullers are about 10mm too short to use.
Or have I missed something?

You should ease tell if your box is 2a or 3 The 2a layshaft is a multi part item where as the three is just two parts with 1-3 gears as part of shaft and 4th that slides on the end.
The shaft should have come out of rear bearing leaving housing in the case. a bit of heat may well be your friend. I would put the lot back in and then standing the box on end on some blocks to clear front of shaft tap the rear of shaft [protect the end] to drive it out.
Have a look at my post "missing reverse" for more info and "steamwally series gearbox" on the youtube.

thanks for reply.
You suggestion helped: rather than pulling the bearing off, i pushed the shaft off with a small press, after a bit more heat.
i will go look at layshaft now.
cheers

Funny thing mines rear bearing was turning in the housing, it is good so put it back with bearing retainer seal.

and when i took the shaft apart, i found the bush had broken in two (which i believe is a common issue), and there was a gouge mark where some grit had gone in. I don't know whether this would have contributed to the rattle from the gearbox i heard, in 1st/2nd.

With my box the bush is also broken [ some have two part bush] I decided to tide the ends a tad and reuse. I sorted the tolerances for the gears on the bush/shaft and then on final fit bearing retainer used to hold in place.
The two little pins that hold thrust washer and bush in mine were ok, often they are broken. Your gouge could be the result of broken pin.

That's a really good shout.

On investigation, i think you can see in the photos:
1) the spot where the inner pin should be (and is no longer, so is likely as you suggest to be the cause of the gouge)
2) the outer pin is now misshaped, so i cannot ease the washer off.

Can this be fixed?
Can i fix it, or do i need to get engineer company to fix (my engine is currently with some, being re-bored)
Or do i buy a replacement shaft?

p.s. can someone look at the attached photo and confirm which gearbox that layshaft comes from (II or III)? I need to be certain which it is if i do need to buy a replacement (part no 264250 i think for II).
Many thanks

From what I see of your main shaft it looks ok. It is possible to drill out the little pin and replace it and the damaged [from rotating] thrust washer. The large pin should pull out, a bit of heat could be your friend.
Any scuffs where the bush goes can be burnished out, the bush should not rotate. As noted above bearing retainer fluid can be used to assist the pin in this.
Other than the snap in two how damaged is the bush?
You have a series two box and will need the box suffix number/letter to order parts, there were changes over the years. Check out series 2 gearbox rebuild on the tube, "Slightly tuned " does a good one.
