I'm currently building a Land Rover to use for trial events and competitions. The chassis is a shortened Range Rover classic and currently is a rolling chassis with the engine mounted.

My question is, is a standard bulkhead needed (from a defender) to make the Land Rover road legal, or is it ok being a modded/homemade bulkdead mounted to the roll cage. The idea is that everything will be mounted to the roll cage (wings, bonnet, windscreen, etc, etc.) and if needed the cage can be unbolted from the chassis and four people can lift everything off in one go.

Even though it will be used for comps, I still want to take it out on a weekend if the weather is nice.

Thanks

You will be failing the points system whatever route you do and ending up on a 'Q' plate anyway so do it how you feel fit, along as its safe and secure and mets regulations then it doesn't really matter....

Not may on here do trials tbh.

I'm rebuilding a series 1 leafer with a V8 for ccv events.

Have you got a copy of the blue book??

What events are you doing which clubs??

Depending on which clubs you need to comply to varying regulations especially regarding rollcage mounting points ect.

Regs here are a very good base: Follow the regs and you can play with 99% of all clubs.

ALRC Supplementary Competition Regulations

You can fab your own bulkhead but a series II/III/Defender bulkhead is by far easier.

Can you explain what the points system is? Also, why would it have to be on a Q plate? Is this due to it being a range rover chassis with a different body on it?

Thanks

Unfortunately I don't have the blue book. I do have the chassis number though - don't know if that makes any difference!?!

To be honest I'm not sure what clubs or what exact events we are going to enter, as we have a long way to go! I think it's worth thinking about though.

Thanks for the link.

Will you be using it as a pure off road or will you be getting it road registered? If you want it on road then you will need an SVA test and this is called the points system, as you have modified the chassis it will use up too many points and fail and so wont be allowed to keep the chassis original reg number.

If you are going to trailer it then you dont need to worry...
