Hi guys and merry Xmas
Have a 2004 freelander can any one tell me were the ecu is located for the srs as srs light is on

In the middle of the car , on the transmission tunnel behind the middle radio . Normally the fault will be with a gold platted wire connector under the front seats. All airbag wires are yellow. I think disconnect the battery for 1/2 hour or so and then check, brake clean the connectors(they power the seatbelt pretensioner explosive charges)

The ECU for the SRS are located under the carpet under the heater box behind the center console. I dont think thats the place too start looking for faults.

Take it to a garage and they will plug a diagnostic machine thingy and that will tell you exactly what part of the srs is at fault. It cost me £20 last year.

Hi guys took plugs apart under seat and cleaned connectors took battery off for half hour still srs light is on any more ideas pls

Yes, get it on a diagnostic tool and get the codes read as already suggested. With SRS systems there is very little you can do without a code read - bar replacing expensive parts in a shotgun manner.

will if its to pass the new MOT regs the light needs to go out or not work at all.
I know it as my car failed last month on the same thing.
I checked all the wires and found nothing wrong with them.
So how did i get around this, well:
Parts needed are a PH2 screw driver, tissue paper and a black felt tip pen.
1)I stripped the dash apart (not to hard only 4 screws around the Instrument panel) then take the cover off the top, there a few more screws inside on brackets.
2)disconnect the wires on the Instrument panel (one on each side), put the Instrument panel on a work bench or table.
3)unclip the front on the Instrument panel so you can get the to the dials and there is a black strip thats runs along the bottom.
4)make a note of where the srs light is and remove the black strip to reveal a cone shape area with a led light at the bottom, now stuff it with tissue paper.
5)colour the paper with a black felt tip pen.
6)but it all back together, plug the wires back in and start your car, if you can not see the light now then its job done and put your dash back together.
7) re MOT your car and this time it will pass!:)

Supplementary restraints

The vehicle will fail the test if any airbag fitted as original equipment is obviously missing or defective.

A seatbelt pre-tensioner fitted as original equipment but missing or that has obviously deployed will be a reason for failure.

Seatbelt load limiters that are missing where fitted as standard or folding webbing type limiters that have obviously deployed are also reasons for failure.

The vehicle will also fail if an SRS malfunction light is missing, not working or indicating a fault

very dangerous thing to do not only could you start a fire but your insurance would be null and void if they found this to be the case and you are just hiding a problem that needs to be sorted . it your life though and it is up to you but you could take somebody else with you

If you say so, but I can get them through as no time defined

Why not get it fixed? Or ask on ere to see it there's anyone within reasonable distance who could plug something in to read the codes.

How do I know if my pre-tensioners are ok and ready to work?

my srs light is on has been on since and during and still after its test in November
however im not disputing anything about it on here just saying it passed its test like it and I asked the mot tester first before I booked it in to be done and told me it wasn't a fail anyways my question
is there anyone with in reasonable distance of blackpool that might be able to plug something in to read the codes or even reset it there are beer tokens involved
I have contacted landrover but they want silly money but it might be my last option
cheers kev

The MOT computer will tell the tester if SRS is fitted, if the light does not do the self test it should be a fail:)
Each MOT testing station has 2 or 3 very large posters, easily visible to all.

One of them covers key instrument lights, such as ABS, SRS etc. For each year of car, the correct indication is listed, such as -

ABS <on> 5 secs delay <off>
SRS <on> 3 secs delay <off)

etc.

The ABS one would not work on a P38, the ABS light does not go out until the vehicle reaches about 7mph.
