hi all this is my first post as i have just purchased myself a freelander 2.0di 50th annivesary,
it needs a couple of jobs doing to it new set of track rod ends, passenger window wont wind down, possibly a cv joint. not major jobs.

but i have one problem that i am not sure what it is.
i am getting a squeeking noise continuosly from,it seems around the belts area its no a screech like when a alternator belt is slipping it sounds more like a dry bearing or something,
i think it is alternator based as when i dip the clutch or coast in neutral it quietens down.

has anyone had this problem or have any advice for me please.

well thanks for all your advice i have took it to the garage and he reckons its the belt making the noise.
so i am getting it changed, also two track rod ends, offside cv joint, and tracking for £200.

this good or bad?

Hi m8,
can u please post if it was the belt or not as i have the same problem.Ive used belt dressing but with no real effect.
Cheers

Sorry, that wasn't too helpful was it.
But it seems you've answered your own question and only somebody stood next to it perhaps with a well aimed squirt of WD and listening can tell you exactly where its comming from.
Slipping belts tend to squeal and change note as revs change, or different loads come on. Have you tried turning all your electrics on and off, turning the wheel full lock, air-con etc.
If it's squeaking in time with the revs then it's a fair bet it's a bearing although the noise can phase in and out as revs change.
Not done it on Freelander alternator (yet), but you should be able to replace the bearings instead of buying a new one.
I decline to list all the other rotary bits.
Is it an air leak around the intake?
Probably best have 'your man' take a look and advise whilst he's doing the other bits as he'll have his head right in there.
Do put us all out of our misery and tell us what he comes up with.
Good luck :)

cheers for replies
i let you know if the noise is cured by new belt i having it done tomorrow, along with the other bit earlier mentioned.

well its still squeeking not as much, so it must be a bearing around the belt will have to investigate more.
