hello,

i posted a thread a bit ago about a squeeking after flushing the intercooler.

had everything stripped down again,no air leaks and everything is back together as it should be.
starting to think as suggested on here its could be the turbo bearing, it has a little play in it.
anyone know how much movement the shaft should have/if any and is there anything that could be done with it if thats what it is?

cheers

forgot to add,
could the noise be something like a belt tensioner?

makes a sound like a circular saw but not all the time, its when the engine is working and revving a bit. take your foot off the gas half an inch it goes away- back on the gas squeaks again!
turbo bearing:confused: belt tensioner:confused: foook knows:confused:

Could be a split in one of the hoses and you don't see it unless the turbo is blowing hard which would make sence given what you say about when it does and doesn't do it.

cant see any, the hoses are firming up under pressure.
seems a bit loud to be an air leak.
anyone know if there should be any movement in the turbo shaft?

I must admit that as I was reading this I wondered if it had anything to do with the well-known "canary" problem of Tdi 300's.

I replaced the belt (£8 - paddocks) and tensioner bearing (£5 - ebay) on mine now my Canary has ceased to be and is pushing up daisies..!

Yup...

It's gone to meet it's maker.

Hold on....

Wake Up Canary... I have a nice bit of cuttle fish for you.. if you wake up..

No.. it's an Ex-Canary

changed the water pump, the impeller was rubbing the inside of the casting,
then the budgie 'flew away'

There won't be a decent bird left in the country soon.............................................................................................. what with new belts and pumps and all

still got a circular saw under the bonnet!
hoping not -but still thinking its the turbo at fault, ain't had chance to inspectigate any further I've had a lot on- some little t**t broke into the house on Sunday

Ive got a problem like this too,

But mine is a belt tensioner i think, it was doing it a bit when i first got it, then a man changed the brake vacume pump for me(was leaking oil), then he bought it back and it had stopped, he said he put some oil somewhere,

Then after i had it steam cleaned its come back, sprayed some 3 in 1 inside the tensioner and the screal goes, but its back minutes later

before it would do it idling, but now its doing it all the time

Serpantine Belt £10
Tensioner Pulley £5
time to do it: 1hr

lift tensioner with a 15mm spanner, remove belt.
unbolt tensioner from engine, clamp in vice, remove bolt (lefthand Thread), remove circlip, drift out old bearing from pulley with a socket, add new bearing, reassemble, put on new belt....Sorted..!!!

can be done without removing fan, remove fan for easier access if you got the spanner...
