Squashed pipe td4. What is it?

Just noticed this whilst sorting out the starter motor on the td4. I don't think it should be squashed and looks to me like maybe air con?

Can anyone shed any light onto it? I couldn't really see it properly as I kept making a shadow. On left hand side of engine near header tank.

Er, power steering?

And nearly every one iv'e seen is the same, with no effect on performance at all. Ever.

Yup - perfectly normal - they'll all like that - from new.

They're not supposed to be like that but they all are. They should have used a supported pipe but didn't. The pipe is flattened because the rack bypass isn't large enough to take the flow capacity of the pump.
Don't worry about it though it's a design fault that luckily doesn't cause a issue

My mate ordered a new one for his FL, I just laughed when the new one came just as squashed as the old one
