I took mine out as I had to get to the number plate bulbs and outside ones are rusted solid.
DONT!
The plastic is brittle as hell where the panels screw through and they snap
Don't take the high level brake light out to get to the number plate bulbs? Check. Re-read your post and my brain functioned the second time through!

Did your battery hold it’s charge?
I think yes and no. It was holding it fine to start the car anyway, but throwing up the OP error messages; having charged the battery nothing much has changed, starts fine, SRS fault still there so need to look at the wiring properly, but I think I need to start looking at prices for new battery today :(

Most garages can check or test the battery for you before you spend your hard earnt on one. Just to be sure take it out of the car and take it to have it tested. ;)

You say that, recently took a battery to a well known high Street shop and they said the battery was fine, another test i did showed it was holding around 100CA not the 600CA it was designed to

Look at the battery voltage when cranking, it could be dropping below 10 volts which will play havoc with the electronics.

I can only echo everyone else. Battery, Battery, Battery.
Mine showed spurious "TC Fault", "ABS Fault" and "Gearbox fault" when the battery was kaput.
All of these went away as soon as a decent battery was fitted.
Came back again when the new battery was hammered by the RF-Fob-receiver wake-up issue, but I was onto it and fixed that too.
