what age do discos and rangys start using air suspention and is it true that you can still buy disco commercials with springs? just wondering as im going to get another landy and dont really want air suspention as it sounds a bit **** for my general rule of keeping it simple :D

Not sure a bout the Rangies but the Disco think it was when it went to the Series 2 which was 98/99 and the air suspension is only on the 7 seaters, Commercial and 5 seaters are coils if im wrong someone will correct me

On the Rangies, some of the very late Classics had air suspension. All 4.2 LSEs had air suspension and I believe there were some 3.9s with air suspension. All P38s have got air suspension as standard, (i.e. 1994 onwards).

i thought it was around the 99 on the discos, what are the sacks like for off roading and reliability??
excellent the advantage with air suspension is the off road mode,

for example, I was offroading at a site and went down this track just under halfway down was a lump in track just enough to make all 4 wheels lose traction so sat there spining the wheels, Then all off a sudden there was a chime from the dash a light flashing after 30 to40 seconds I got traction and started to move forward. when i got to the other side of that track we decide to have a cuppa and i looked in the book to find out what that flashing light was somehow it senced no forward movement and it pumped more air it to the bags and it lowered the rear axel 2 inches. very cool.
as soon as you go above 20 mph it goes back to normal road height.

There is a switch on dashboard as well,
the only thing that lets the system down is the bags when they start to go, easy enough to change bags just price of bags, lowest i've seen was £80 a side, Land rover suggest replacing them every 5 years

they are obviously electronically controlled then thats the bit that concerns me, but as you say when they are working they work well,

We have a Disco 3 with air suspension. It wasn't on the standard models, we have a 7 seater. It's very useful because it has 3 positions. Off road it gives a few inches more clearance than the sprung ones. You can also drop it down to the ground to help people get in. Great bit of kit and if you know how you can program the key to change the ride height from outside the car ;)
