been touching up the disco this weekend but need to lacquer the front wing after its respray.

instructions say use 1200 wet&dry to score the paint before applying lacquer but the paint looks a bit flat anyway.

whats others experiences on this, do I need to sand it or can i just spray the lacquer over the paint?

id use 1600 wet and dry with plenty of water applied with an old fairy liquid bottle it just keys the surface of the paint enough for the laquer to adhere properly then dry it thoroughly useing a hairdryer then put the laquer on repeating the process again for a second coat leave it for a couple of days then tcut the pannel getting near enough a professional finnish i used this method with tins from halfords even people from garages cant really tell unless told then and only then they notice
regards john

cheers john

using halfords paints too so guess im going shopping for some 1600 paper or could i use a cutting compound to get the same result?

if i were to just lacquer over the paint im guessing it wouldnt take too well then

I have to agree pretty much with what John said. I prefer not to use Tcut though, I polish me paint work and laquer up using 1600 wet and dry, you can get even finer grades from some specialist shops but 1600 is fine enough.

I Prefer to do at least 3 fine coats of laquer giving them a light rubbing after leaving it for a good couple of hours. I feel it gives a much better finish (specially on wood work)

Hope you get on alright with it :)

Edit: Oh, And don't forget to tack it off between coats after rubbing it down or it'll be rough as a bears ass and like like shyte.
