Spotting an engine refit

Hi,

Is there any visual way to spot if an L322 has had a new engine fitted when inspecting a used vehicle? It would be useful in cases where the log book isn't exactly overflowing with details. Not being that experienced with cars I'm unable to tell by listening to the engine, as I'm sure the many on this forum can.

Thanks for the reply. I thought it might be something obvious. I found a post showing where the engine number is located on the 4.4 V8. Can you tell me whether it's in the same place on the TDV8 3.6 engine?
