Hi, Ive just bought a 2011 Discovery 4 LE 20 tryes. Had it a couple of months. Have owned a TD5 and a D3.
This just seems so spongy on corners. You have to really steer It and hold it steady. It has just passed an
MOT and had a service by the garage I purchased it from.. I took it back and they had it for a day and returned it saying they had wheel balanced and tracked it and it was fine. But Im still not convinced.
Speaking to a pal he said possibly the Air Bags on the suspension have gone. Is this an MOT fail??
Or could it be something else.. Thanks for any feedback

Need it plugging into diagnostics to check live data , ie compressor is producing enough psi

Along with ensuring the suspension heights are correct

As it’s just passed it’s MOT I assume there are no worn out wishbones , ARB bushes

What size tyres have u got and mileage plse , thks

Does the height change? If the air bags had gone it would be sat down on it's arse

The height doesn't really change, although the odd time I have been sat at light and noticed a change.. but its not sat on its arse. The access height. Normal Height and Off road Height all work

tryes are 20's

How are the bushes, particularly the large bushes on the front and rear lower arms? These bushes are hydro-bushes and are very easy damaged by speed hump and potholes.

That’s what I was also thinking , but one would assume its just gone through an mot that there all ok , famous last words

My experience with the D3 over 50K miles showed me very quickly, just how important the hydro-bushes are, where handling and feel are concerned. The D3/4 is a seriously heavy vehicle, and so the slightest bit of slop in the bushes, really affects the way the vehicle behaves on the road. This will be exaggerated by comedy sized wheels, with elastic band tyres.

Plus 1 , am wondering what size tyre the op has got fitted on 20 inch rims ,

Know when I fitted new, rear upper wishbones, drop links front and rear it made a huge difference with the ride quality , it seemed quieter after but I think that was just me

thanks for all the replies. I wouldn't really know how the bushes are as Im no mechanic. Will a diagnostic ,plug in test
reveal all problems?? Cheers

Er no. Bushes are a mechanical component, what got soft with age and mileage. So a diagnostic isn't got to tell you anything. You're better off going to a suspension specialist, and see what they recommend.
But in my experience, polyurethane bushes really help tighten up the suspension on these heavy vehicles
