Split Charge Batteries

Is there any actual difference between the yellow top Optima batteries and a caravan battery when it comes to needing a deep cycle battery for a split charge system.
Caravan batteries seem to be much cheaper, do they handle the rough and tumble Defender environment well?

optimas are much tougher physicaly and can be mounted anyway round

but if all you want is a deep cycle non starter battery to put next to your standard one a caravan one will be fine

if you want a dual purpose without the optima price tag have a look at the numax cxv range, i've got a pair in my battery box

never had a problem with a caravan battery for me winch - even when at some "interesting" angles

They are good batts at a decent price made by a respected manufacturer. Simples.
