I have that conviction!!
Replaced the engine in an allegro (Long time ago) and crushed the cable. On
the way home from the garage I had an incident which resulted in the car
being hauled off by the fine officers of the constabulary for an engineers
check.
Defective speedo & defective horn £45 fine, and no endorsement (before
points)
Incidently, I was 21 when I had that allegro, and one day I was stopped 5
times on a 75 mile journey because I was under 60........... Years old!
Obviously I must have nicked it! Sadly I did actually own it.
