So when I got the motor according to SWOM it looked like someone had been sick on the speaker grilles.
Before WMF.jpg

So I decided to give them a seeing to. What a game getting the door handle inserts off to get to the screws. I very nearly didn't put them back on again.
So card(s) off - muck and bullets everywhere etc. This picture has been cleaned up.:D:D
Card off NS WMF.jpg

The grille itself is held on buy some nuts, whipped it off and then after a bit of prep got they painted. Gave everything a good clean up so it is starting to smell sweeter inside the cab and put it all back together.
After WMF.JPG

Time to complete, 3 hours.

that's look good, done the same to mine

is fun bending the pins back , lol got some new backing for the speakers , just bought a small roll of Amazon sprayed them black as well. is good fun in not trying to get drips off the grills by putting too much paint on

does make a lot of difference and think you've done a cracking job

also done the tweeters as well as they do seem to fade , getting knocked

reminds me got to still do the back ones

Thanks. I will also do the tweeters later though they are fairly decent and I wanted the main ones done as they were an eyesore. The pic doesn't do the grot justice.:D

Thanks. it is pretty much all like that inside the cab but bit by bit I am making it habitable.

suprising how much nicer and cleaner it looks by doing these small jobs

but always seems to take ages in getting them right , lol

It always amazes me just how much junk I find under things. I took a cover off the thing under the driver seat while I had the seat out and found money, screwdriver and other stuff.

After I finish fixing the VCU, respray rear door, install the lift kit, replace the wheels, fumigate the interior, fix the intermittent amigos light, repair the fuel tank support, replace the vac hoses and probably the same again I'll need to respray my speaker grills.

Maybe tomorrow, :p

I took that cover off last weekend. I found myself a star/torqs/what ever bit it is that fitted the bolts and proceeded to undo the first bolt. The bit fell out of the sockety thing you put them in and fell down a gap and rolled under the bloody cover I was trying to get off!!!!!

Proceeded to spend ages finding something to hook it back out with!

Anyway, I got it off, then had fun trying to read the LR/WABCO part number on the ABS ECU in the confined dark space under the seat.

Not the most exciting of pictures :)

The driver's grille on mine has a couple of spots of corrosion too - so a great post well, timed helijohn! :D

Ideally, I'd like to paint it so it looked the same as it did originally. Anyone found out the correct paint code? :)

My car is Java black, but just bought a Hammerite black paint from halfords , was the smooth version , got that due to it getting knocked and a harder wearing paint , but know there are plenty of other paints that will I imagine do the same job , just preference as its a hard wearing paint , think it was 5 quid for a large tin , plenty to do all 6 x covers

is good fun replacing a dashboard , carpet complete and heater matrix, as was suprised the amount of junk I found , no money though ;);)

took ages to Hoover the entire car out once everything was removed

Or the green colour of the door handles? I think I'd go beige - although finding the right colour will be a challenge unless I take the car to a spray shop to get them to scan and mix the paint!

sorry didn't realise u were trying to match that

but does look really good the black , but my interior is all black, being the 2002

if u look in halfords they have row after row of paint colours , even having manufacturer colours to

know the paint code is under the bonnet but that's ur body colour , lol

I actually think that black goes ok with the rest of the door furniture.

am with u on that , sets it off and won't show any dirt etc up ,

also bought the foam that goes under the grill , as I could see the speaker through the grill

all good fun trying to cut it out and getting it all back on , hardest bit was not getting any runs on the grill

Is that what that is?? I had the seat out and then that cover cos the cover needed fumigation too.
I use a torx screwdriver - one for each size in a set - bear in mind there are lots of hard to access screws like the side moulding on the seats. I hate torx and have never come across such a torxey motor before.
Did you not have a magnet probe. The ones with neodymium tips are really good.;)

Black would certainly be a lot simpler! Unfortunately, mine is like John's: it's beige!

Gosh, is that the colour.:eek: I was assuming it was smokestone or whatever they call it. I use Wilko black these days for almost everything carwise but I do favour Hammerite for certain jobs like the rear drums (gold naturally!)
