Spare wheel on the bonnet??

Want to put my spare on the bonnet (For Now) got the 2 bolts and L shaped gubbins, but (Dumb question time again) how does it hold the wheel down, is the a certain way those gubbins grip the wheel etc.......

took me a while to work it out!

They only work for the original wheels i think.

The L shaped gubbins go upside down at an angle with the bolts through them.

Sorry its hard to explain!

Did you get your gubbins sorted? I would like to put my spare on the bonnet - where did you get you bits?

place the wheel on the bonnet upside down
make sure two of the wheel nut holes line up with the holes in your bonnet
place the l shape brackets on the wheel with the hole over the wheelnut hole
make sure the lug is pointing downwards
insert bolt and tighten clockwise

Dont think thats right. You cant get two wheelnut holes to line up with the bolt holes. The bolts both go through the centre of the wheel each with an L bracket on it, lug downward. You the swing the L bracket to clamp the wheel when you tighten the bolts with the wheel brace. You therefore never have to fully remove either bolt the get the wheel of or on. Tyre should now sit centralised on the rubber pads if fitted which protect you paintwork.

oops i appologise, yes you are right big bird, the wheel nut hole fits in a lug on the bonnet,

Aye, the lug / stud also has a hole for a padlock if you wish.

Only used one L bracket on mine couln't work out where the other one went!!!!!!!! But it holds it tight>

I used mine with the L brackets the other way up. The longer leg then rests on the bonnet mount and the top part then is more horizontal and tightens down easier.

The stud should also be throught one wheel nut hole.

The studs aint meant to come out are they??

As they have a split pin at the end (Engine bay end) to stop you removing them completly......





Picture 2 is how I now have mine, but you are right, it does not look right...

the first photo is how it should be, the second photo, you have got the brackets upside down, also, as bigbird says one of the stud holes in the wheel should be over the fixed stud in the carrier

Ah with you now...

Mine aint got the stud sticking up.......

I done it another way and I'm going for the discovery spare wheel carriers front bonnet and back door, for the bonnet I might make some form of polo cushion to protect the bonnet though.
