Freelander needs new tyres soon and I want to go bigger to gain an inch ground clearance so will have to replace all five

So............if I calculate correctly..............

I fit a set of 30mm spacers to my Freelander, I should be able to fit 235/75x16 tyres with no fouling or rubbing problems?

My understanding is that anything over 215s will foul the wishbone so increasing the hub width by 30mm will give me that much clearance inside the wheel and a 235s will only need 20mm over the currently fitted 215s

Anyone any idea what the downside is (if any) or am I being a muppet and ****ed up me sums a bit?

OR

Simpler question..................whats the BIGGEST dual purpose tyre I can fit on 16 inch rims on a Freelander with 30mm spacers fitted?

The steering lock will be restricted due to the inside of the tyre rubbing on the valence.
Also fitting spacers significantly inreases the bearing loads since the line of thrust is outside the bearing centres.

Spacers should be ok as long as you dont go silly

Upto about 30mm should be ok

The standard LR 17" alloys are offset different to the 16s and give the effect of a spacer ie wider track - when I had the 17s on, I didnt measure it but it was probably 20-25mm difference
