Well we were (wife plus 2 kids, plus a car load of camping gear) all heading to the south of France in my P38 4.6 HSE, but never made it!

I'm glad to say that it was simply because we enjoyed Brittany so much that we didn't want to go any further south. The 8 hour 450 mile journey from south Brittany to Calais yesterday (avoiding toll roads) was quite simply pretty enjoyable and extremely comfortable. I have to say that I have never felt so fresh after a long journey as I did getting out of the P38.

In a forum full of woes, I just wanted to say that the RR did the 1500 mile round trip without a single hiccup, complaint or groan. Granted the 17 MPG average wasn't ideal, but otherwise a totally enjoyable trip, which did include a few green lanes when time allowed!

Glad you enjoyed your excursion in your P38. 17 MPG !! Yikes........i recently went from Dorset to Staffs in my 4.0 P38 and the computer gave me a reading of 24.6 mpg. Admittedly it was mostly Motorway but I was really chuffed with the MPG and comfort. They are excellent machines when performing well

driving like miss daisy mine was 14 normally and 9mpg round london

I too have just returned from Brittany in my 4.6 HSE, superb cars for long distance driving.

We did over 3000 miles 3 weeks in June on a trip from West Wales to Carcassonne and back (South of France) with the caravan - the 4.6V8 made light work of the towing and we had a very comfortable trip :). Even with the van on we got 22 mpg on gas. Happy days! We liked it so much we're going back to France later this month.
