Hi, just bought my first Discovery a 300Tdi Commercial. Love it to bits, drives lovely but the bl**dy central locking is driving me insane and getting me huge amounts of grief from my other half (I thought you said it was a good one, aren't Land Rovers supposed to be good etc).
When I got it the locking worked fine on the remote buttons. Two days later it suddenly won't lock. If you sit inside and press the drivers door button then it all locks fine. From outside if you press the remote button then it locks and then pops open again. (Seems to be the drivers door button doesn't go properly down.) Then the alarm goes off. Neither front door will operate with the key. I must admit that as the locks were working fine with the button I forgot to try with the key when I bought it, but I'm sure I've used the key in the passenger door since I got it, and that doesn't work now.
HELP PLEEASE!!!!
Does it sound like the spring thing or something else?
If it is the spring is it really as bad a job as it sounds? Do I really have to take the window out?

So does mine - Series 2 Tdi and it is driving me insane as well - I have to reset it and its ok for a short while and then it suddenly just fails. I will NEVER buy another LR as this is the longest problem I have had amongst many other petty and irritating faults that no-one seems to know unless I am willing to pay a dealer copious amounts of cash to fix 'a known fault'.

I had this problem on a previous 300Tdi Discovery. Inside the door there is a small wire that links the lock motor to the interior button. This appears to stretch over time but can be adjusted quite simply. No need to remove the glass but you do need to get the door card out.

Fantastic will have a look tomorrow. Getting the door card off isn't a problem I've had it of today trying to see if there was anything obvious I could see wrong. Will it be obvious how to do this when I get to it or do you have any words of wisdom?

It's been a while since I did this but if memory serves me correctly the wire is made of braided stainless steel (or maybe aluminium). It connects to the bottom of the interior button and even had a threaded adjuster. All I did was shorten the wire by a few millimetres and the locks all started working properly again.

Checked today. Can't see any way of adjusting between the button and the locking motor. It's all rigid rods. There is a threaded adjustable one between the outside handle and the lock but that didn't help the problem. Hell !!! Looks like the garage is going to have to have a go. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Sorry my memory wasn't as good as I thought it was ;)

No problem. Nice of you to try and help. I have a good mechanic near me who is going to have a look and failing that there is a good independant land rover specialist a little way away on Anglesey so hopefully it will get sorted one way or another.
