Sorry boys and girls, want to clean/change my crank case filter, can some one give me a hand on its location? Can't find a clear description on here, or maybe its me just being a bit thick. Just had all the pipe work on top of the engine out and cleaned of all the gunk, it was very dirty, bet it was restricting the air flow by half. That box, don't no what its called (bolts to the top of the engine, Im shore you no the one) was choka with gunk, so scraped it all out, bashed it around and rinsed with turps and a tooth brush, put it back on and you can feel the difference straight away, better acceleration and a bit smoother. The main goal for all this is to get my MPG up with out EGR and Synergy outlay. I'd be happy to just get what Landrover say you should get. Will post back when done a few miles if its made any differance to MPG. Thanks for reading:doh:

best to get the plastic replacement from BMW only costs £20 and is much better than the glorified toilet roll landy fit. you will find part number in previous threads for BMW.

as for the housing its just in front of the air filter box. you need to unscrew 3 of the injector loom torgs and usually also have to take out one of the black plastic fuel return pipes. (be very careful with these as they are plastic and brittle) you need to remove the slip pin holding it in then gently pop it out, you can than access on open the black box housing holding the crank case filter.

if you get too stuck ill put pics on tomorrow its just too dark now :p

Once you've replaced your filter you can fit an egr bypass & run Millers diesel additive regularly at double the stated dose & you will see an increase in both performance & economy. You'll also need to make sure your Maf is in good working order & keep those tyre pressures right. Use only good quality fully synthetic engine oil changed every service & keep your transmission oils changed & topped up when due. Also visit Roverrons Tuning Diesels website for good info on servicing & problem areas etc. even if your not intereted in the synergy there's lots of good advice there.

what total bollox went through 2 bottles of that stuff at double dose did'nt make 1 iota of differance in any way

chromiumuk, thanks for taking the time to give me the info, found the filter tonight and for now cleaned it with turps till i get the chance to change it, but at least i know where it is now(thanks Ash to for helping). Now, next question, what is and where is the MAF? Im not new to mechanics but not had much to do on this Freeby yet, which is only good news, appreciate any help from all of you, thanks agian.

By the way, what do you guys have against Britpart?

funny, but a guy from work with a bmw 320 with 45k on has just had a blown turbo, front cat and £2500 taken off him. Crankcase breather blocked.

I would have expected landrover to not bother, but bmw should have really modded thier own....

The MAF is the Mass airflow temperature sensor. It is located in the induction tract. I don't have a TD4 but from the info I have on it I understand it is located on the side closest to the coolant expansion bottle.

I agree all that additve stuff to make ya car faster and fly to the moon is rubbish, I`d never put that sort of crap in any engine of mine.

i do user a trade only injecter cleaner if i have a long run to do in the td5 but that is a whole bottle with a tank full and within 50/60 miles you can notice a marked differance in performance and mpg. but on the whole it only gets a max of 2 treatments per year.
