Something a-mist?

Took the blower air inlet duct off today to fit a bilge blower and when I re-fitted the the ducting I noticed it doesn't quite face up with the heater/blower box. See the distinct gap in the picture (the gap is actually about twice what can be seen because of the foam I stuck on before putting the duct back in).
There was no way to get the ducting further back (all of the bolts are lined up correctly)

Any ideas? Is there something missing here or is this likely a badly fitted heater/blower box?
Thinking I might just use some flexible ducting to bridge the gap but intrigued why its like it is never the less.

There is a thick foam type seal between the plastic duct and the heater/blower box

Might be wrong but isn't there a plastic piece that fits inside the ducting then sticks out into the foam seal .

That's why I stuck some foam on, wasn't expecting to need stuff over an inch thick though.

Looks like 11 and 12 might be the missing bits (I did find yet more bodged wiring on the heater/blower circuit so wouldn't surprise me if its another previous owner special.

Mystery solved, will have a browse to see what I can pick up.

The genuine part is pretty pants, TBH, just a bit of foam with some double sided tape. Anyone could make a better one.

For things like this I use layers of foam exercise mat built up with a hot glue gun, cheap as chips and loads of uses.

Have ended up ordering a spacer duct from LR Direct, everywhere else need a couple of days as its OEM part and those 2 days are 2 extra days it could be sitting on the "to be fitted" parts pile

Will try using a couple of wraps of the sticky back neoprene/foam I have lying around for the seal, hopefully will get it fitted this weekend...

Fitted the spacer to day but it doesn't to make a decent seal which ever way around I fit, have fitted the "wrong" way round for now so it protrudes from the inlet box just so it at least ducts most of the air from the bilge blower into the heater/blower inlet.
Can't say I'm overly happy about it, what a s**te design...

I'd have thought this all needs to be sealed up well if I end up fording/wading so think I may try to make a properly sealed connectio with some flexi ducting, jubilee clips and silicone sealant.

De-mist does seem to be working well though.

Proper seal is less than a tenner, just fit it and it’s job done surely?

After a few removals/refittings they are compressed and don’t seal properly so need replaced. Or they fall off and people don’t replace them. Quite an important seal as it stops engine bay fumes being drawn into the cab.
