Wanted to get some thoughts from you guys as I'm not sure what to do, currently got a 90 with disco 200tdi, just uprated the intercooler and everything is running sweet, axles, gearbox, transfer box all replaced, lift kit every and every thing else fitted, always puts a smile on my face when driving it,but having owned a rangie 4.6 before the 90 I do miss the v8, Now I'm thinking of putting 3.9 v8 in her after a full strip down and rebuild over the winter ( i do like a little project:D ) and as these are going quite cheap now days as not a lot of people want big v8 ,I've been offered one cheap and I've arranged to go and have a look at it tomorrow, the 90 only gets used at weekends for playing in and isn't my daily so mpg is not really an issue, if it where you what would you do, go for the v8 or leave it as is?

Here's a wee pic of the 90 as she is

V8 if you are preparred to have a few conk out moments, they are more fun but theres the obvious water issues, oil pressure problem (although I believe the 3.9 isn't too bad with that) and overheating, you will need to keep that rad clear!!

but after all things considered just think of that v8 burble...

I built a v8 3.5 efi with a 4 speed auto. I absolutely loved it. It made the diesel ones look a bit boring and on a run it wasn't much worse on fuel! Traffic light grad prix was hilarious too:D

lexus v8, megasquirt, lexus autobox with megashift(like compushift but cheap) and hilux transfer box .You could pick that lot up for less than a grand and have a reliable 300ponies:D

I would go v8 all the time
If you use the later 4.6 or 4.0 which runs coil packs instead of a dizzy that would help with the water issue
I've got a disco 2 v8 and I leave it running and jet wash the engine off without any problems

my 4.2v8 bobtail was great and the loud peddle was amazing, this soon wore off after a few months of 5-8mpg and around £70-£100 in fuel everytime i done a pay nplay or challenge event, and water was its biggest downfall all the waterproofing in the world couldnt make it compete with a doozil

and i couldnt afford megasquirt so i sold it

ya fender is a differnet beast to ya rangie(which was very nice btw). Trips to viloets etc will be touch and go again, but the torque from my 3.9 was better (felt better anyway) than my 200tdi fender on the steep hills.through mud, its not really an issue cos they both handle it fine.

The V8 is much nicer drive, instant rsponse tons of grunt , and noit having to wait for it all to wind up ! The water thing isnt as big a problem as many make out , mine is waterproof enough , after all its not a submarine. If you arnt doing long distances or commuting then the fuel usage will be livable. Auto trans helps cover up the weaknesses of a tdi btw .
Having said all that because of my use parameters of my 110 I am looking to go BMW 6cyl TD conversion

I'd go V8 if I were you,if you can afford that bit extra for fuel and don't mind getting your hands dirty when you go that bit too deep in water and it cuts out then the V8 is for you.
A lot of people keep going on about V8's being no good in water but there's a lot more to offroading than splashing about in dirty puddles ;)
