hi all, I'm just in the process of replacing my gear box oil on my D2
EVery thing I have read is telling me approx 2.8 or 2.9 l of oil but I'm getting overflow from the fill
Plug with before all the replacement to oil can go in about 400ml to go
Is this ok ?

Thanks

is car perfectly level, if not you wont have drained box fully and level hole perhaps lower than it should be, id expect just shy of 3 litres ,you can level box using a jack

Do you have oil cooler fitted to your manual?... cos only then you need 2.8l of oil, if there's no cooler it's 2.3 to refill

Thanks for your reply, the car looks
mine is manual and doesnt have one(unfortunately)...afaik only african and australian specs had it factory fitted
I took it for

thanks, I checked and was not exactly level but not far off ...so maybe old oil left in .....first time I've done this so will know for next time.

if it has one it's under the intercooler like on autos but if your's is not export modell it has not then 2.3l is the refill volume

I know how much oil i can fill in mine which confirms what's in the workshop manual, i doubt that 2.8l will enter in a gearbox without cooler as it's capacilty is 2.6 from dry;)

it's a contradiction between the books then... but i know that i can make 2 oil changes from on 5l cannister of MTF94 and still some left so IMO RAVE is correct, also in that overhaul manual is stated only ATF as lubricant which we all know that it's not the best and nothing mentioned about the proper MTF94

in that area you are the master... though afaik those who are using ATF are using Dexron III which is stated as alternative in RAVE not that ATF M2C33F/G which is mineral and described as "supplied for Ford automatic gearboxes (produced prior to 1981) and other gearboxes requiring non-friction modified ATF" .... IMO that overhaul manual is a bit obsolete in the lubicant area

it is, lubricants do improve ,but the box is an old design though not spoiled by that, lack of oil change is the biggest issue i see apart from baulk ring design, doesnt matter how good the oil is if it is dirty, lr service intervals can be too long imo

i fully agree... that's why i'm changing the oil once a year before winter kicks in... before doing that it was hard to select 1'st and 2'nd gear at -20*C in the morning
