What are the likely reasons for a discovery 2 to feel 'squidgy' as she goes into a bend?

She's running on 18" Grabber AT's on a normal (rear air suspension) setup - she just feels 'wrong' when she goes round the bends.

Is there anything I should think about to make her 'firmer'?
 
Doh! I should have stated that - Yes.

Iv also been lucky enough to compare the drive with another D2 with the same setup and tyres with similar tread (good 9mm)

She seems to wallow or just feel unstable.

Does your car have ACE? If it does then it should feel almost flat going around corners.

If you have ACE there's something wrong with it, that's where I would start looking.

It has ACE - any suggestions on how to investigate that (would a hawkeye help? )

Also a couple of pointers on dampers would be helpful as I know little about them (!) And i'm away from a proper computer for a while

I would imagine that the ACE would pop up a yellow or red warning light on the dash if it thinks anything is wrong. Doesn't the BCU log any faults to do with ACE?

Mine has a coil conversion and ACE was bypassed before I bought it; just an idler pulley under the bonnet. ACE bars default to locked position - still drives well, both on and off tarmac although more flex would be available if the ACE was all present and working.
Not had much luck in sourcing non-ACE anti roll bars without paying extortionate amount of money for bits of bent steel bar...
 
you can try to read fault codes from the ACE ECU to make sure cos even if it doesnt show a warning it could missbehave and put the system in "floppy bars" condition((Hawkeye v.5 works on it you can even run a live system test and calibration with it), or maybe the warning lamp is disabled or faulty?...does it work on self test = 3 seconds after ignition on pos II changing colour from red to amber(or vice-versa) then go off?

anyway the ACE ECU is quite unreliable and might make strange tricks as to not trigger the warning even with a present fault

the valve block. In this condition the torsion bar will perform similar to a conventional anti-roll bar, resisting roll but still
allowing the axles to articulate.

I'll plug a Hawkeye in just to check this out and then go for a lie down under the car whilst other people turn the steering wheel and push the wheels around

If you have a Hawkeye, it has a special test program to test all the ACE components - just be careful to park somewhere clear of anything near the car when doing the test, it's quite violent !!!!
 
I found a flat car park and parked it next to another D2 which goes around corners ok.

Bounced the front corners and she definitely wallowed around - rocking visbly side to side - a lot more so than the other one.

So my diagnosis is shocks/dampers need replacing.

I've not done the ACE hawkeye test I'll probably do the shocks first.
