So my P38 was parked up for 12 days...

... whilst I was away, and now I'm back, so hi all.

Couple of things since returning tho -

Battery kept enough charge to crank the engine and start it first time no probs.
However, rear drivers side air suspension had lowered, and the pump didnt kick in.
Started to drive home (as left it at my mums) on bump stops as I lowered the EAS, within 3 miles the pump kicked in and ride height to what it should be. Any ideas on that one?

Also, had a minor concern about water pipe and expansion tank heat before i went away.
Header pipe is quite pressurised after engine is at running temp. Hard and spongy is how best to describe, but not solid. When giving a squeeze, the water level in the expansion tank responds, going up/down as I squeeze and release.
Temp guage sits 2mm left of center all the time, not a hint of overheating from the guage. Should I be concerned, as the pipes are very hot, and the expansion tank is also feeling hot externally.

And one final thing, with regard to the battery terminals - the car has had a new Halfords battery in the last month, the terminals are not tight tight, they are twistable and I could easily pull off if i tried, but I just cannot work out how to tighten the clamps on the battery terminals, so any help there greatly appreciated. Searched this web site and the manual, but no clear indications.

i would at a guess say height sensor? but without plugging in you are just going to be guessing!

mine did the same thing last week and plugged it in and the rear o/s height sensor was throwing a wobbly so 2 new rears ordered...10 years old so i expect a few things like that now lol

i also have the same prob with battery terminals! its been ok but not as tight as they should be!

The battery terminals should be tight, you should not be able to twist them. If they are as tight as the nut will go try loosening the bolt tap the terminal on a little further and re-tighten.

As for the cooling system what you describe sounds fine. the system is made to run under pressure usually about 7 psi so the hoses should have a little pressure in them.

if the clamp on the termonals is fully closed where the bolt is, whip it off and file, grind it a little, it wont need much and it will make it alot tighter.

keep the eka code and a few tools handy till you fix it as it may pop off! did on mine and took me 4 hours to get going!

Ok, thanks for the responses, will sort the terms, keep an eye on EAS, and not worry about the cooling system (for now lol)

cheers...

tip for you if you find the terminals won't tighten up as you have no more adjustment.
A piece of solid core 2.5mm household cable about 1cm long without insulation, place vertically and re-clamp done this loads of times without issue as you still get full surface are of clamp touching.
