After six months of almost continuous spanner work, my latest electrical 'issue' has been the straw to break the camel's back.

Having experienced a total failure in the alarm / imobiliser and central locking, I reluctantly shelled out for replacement parts and then commissioned a mobile diagnostics guy to do the final programming and trouble-shooting.

After 6 hours on Saturday, he finally quit on it too! Basically, we got it to the stage, where the car will unlock and function normally off of the EKA - but won't recognise any of the key fobs - he couldn't even get them programmed to it.

After hours of probing the various looms, he finally declared that it could be a problem with the fuse-board; but could not guarantee that. As you all probably know, it's a bit of a palaver getting this out - and I could well do that only to find out that the problem is elsewhere.

I'm at the stage now, where I have neither the time, nor the inclination to go on with this. Over the last six months, the vehicle has had:

- Full engine service
- New Cam Belt
- New clutch hydraulics
- Brand new radiator and remote pressure releiving thermostat kit
- 4 brand new Goodyear Wranglers (fitted just last month).

It breaks my heart to see it go - I still think it's one of the best looking small SUVs around. And the bodywork / drivetrain and engine are all spot on (even the VCU checks out fine - no nasty noises from the drivetrain; no tightening on full lock in reverse, engine purrs very sweetly). But there comes a time when even the most determined person will have to reasonably call it a day.

The vehicle is now on ebay (if anyone is interested). Low mileage (104104 K miles - no I dodn't make that up!) pristine bodywork and great full leather interior. I'm going to let it go with the known fault (which I have been very honest about in the listing) for £1500. Given the value of the spares alone, it could be a real bargain for someone.

I genuinely hope that the person who buys it has the time and inclination to sort these issues (it would break my heart to think of such a good vehicle being broken).

If anyone is interested, just PM me. Equally, if anyone is interested in some cheap parts (including a full LUK clutch kit, spare engine ECU, brand new set of HT leads and new set of spark plugs) let me know. Otherwise, I think this may well be my last post on here.

Thanks to all for the very helpful advice (wish I'd listened to the guys who advised the unleaded / matches route) and good luck with your vehicles.

Cheers,

Ian.
