So.. Lancaster vs Flux!

Mine says I'm not covered for
driving or use on a motor racing track, circuit, airfield, test
venue, derestricted road or at an ‘off road’ event.

What's a deristricted road ?

and an "off road" event- is that just P&P ?

I can feel a huge nightmare coming on here- insurers that will cover me for green laning won't cover me for having so many seats and needing business use cover or the ones that will cover me for the business use clause probably won't cover me for laning

110,

That reads to me that you wouldn't be covered for any eventuality of off roading, whether it's greenlanes or P&P.

How many seats do you have? 8 + Driver; 9 + Driver or 11 + Driver? And how many do you actually need?

Is your business use just travelling to and from work? Or travelling during the day, from site to site, on business?

Is your "off roading" only on greenlaning?

As for "derestricted road" you must ask your insurer what they mean. In the UK Road and Traffic regs use the term deristricted road to signify national speed limit and it can't mean that.

What does the bit say word for word about de-restricted roads ?

Coz, derestricted is normally means that the 30MPH speed limit does not apply

On the phone to them now- theyre saying definately not insured for green laning - despite me explaining its a legal highway

Ed can you PM me please to see what I'd need to take off from my wording of business use to get cover

110,

All I can suggest is the first port of call being to call your current insurer and ask if you can add off road cover on to your policy.

Apart from that, there is not much I can think of.

Sorry,

Ed

Nope tis a big no- so got to look round for a new quote - they very generously won't charge me for cancellation fee - despite it being their clumsy wording on their policy at fault .

Ed if I ring flux for a quote you about to talk sense to me ?

I would like to officially declare my love for Ed :)

One phone call - a few million questions and 5 minutes later I'm covered - for all the stuff I need and for just a smidgen more than I was previously paying :)

Ed - Anytime you happen to be passing the Midlands on the M6 or M1 there's a cake with your name on it waiting here for you :)

I think you should courier some lemon cake down here.....decided lack of cake today ;)

110, I would be careful what you offer me, especially when it comes to food, you may end up with a stranger knocking on your door. I'd happily give you my address though if you wanted to post a delectable delight :p haha.

Joking aside, it was an absolute pleasure, enjoy the sun and the long weekend.

I went to lancaster as flux were £130 more expensive this year.

Never had a problem with flux customer service, but Lancaster has left a lot to be desired so far.

Did you speak to our renewals team to try and get the price down?

Yeah, despite haggling it was only when I came to ask for the no claims bonus that they gave me lowest offer. By which time it was too late.

Will be in contact via here next year though so see what can bee done though.

When looking for insurance last year I tried Lancaster but when I told them I had nine seats they declined me saying they did not cover vehicles with more than eight seats!

flux it was. Might go back to NFU if they play ball again

Just be careful when it comes to 'Pay and Play'. Since you have paid to be on the course, it may no longer be considered a public highway, and if the insureance companies want to be pedantic, comes in to line with track days. This certainly isn't an issue at Adrian Flux, but the larger 'mainstream' insurers may find ways to avoid paying out as much as possible.

Regards,

Ed

that ones a non issue for me, I don't intend to do pay n play, my fender is my daily motor, this may change, but not before insurance is up for renewal (Ill give you a ring then ed!! :) )

When I asked for a quote for the series with AF the lowest they would go was £1800 o_O (have had similar issues with them for my 'normal' car), I got it insured for £200 through Norton insurance.

I was with Sureterm for last 3 years. Lancaster bought them out so I have recently received renewal docs. from Lancaster. The quote for my Defender 90 CSW 2005 @ £232 was less than the previous Sureterm quote of about £275. I am over 60 with no claims in living memory. The insurance docs. arrived today and on the enclosed letter was a demand for Thatcham 1 or 2 fitment certificate, otherwise the cover would be cancelled.

I rang them back and explained I had been mis-sold the insurance as I had discussed with the agent that the car was fitted with the standard manufacturer's fitment in 2005, that was categorized Thatcham 2, and he failed to mention that a fitment certificate would be required. The agent had to contact the underwriters who now advised that although the system may have originally carried Thatcham 2 status, it had now been decategorised, so wasn't acceptable.

They then proceeded to requote on the basis of no certificate required and the re-quote came out about £6 cheaper and now included NCD protection and a smaller excess - although I'll believe that only when I see the printed documents.

Strange business, this motor insurance.
