So.. Lancaster vs Flux!

This sounds like the kind of thread that could start a war on Landyzone, but I was hoping to consodate the opinions, and see what the overall feel was.

The forums are mostly full of horror stories and complaints, because it's always easier to moan I suppose, and I literally can't decide between these two "big" 4x4 players. At the end of the day, I want to be able to sleep knowing I have good cover + support. I have until Friday to decide!

I am personally pricing up a '99 Defender 90, and with all my settings run, I have got:

£414 from Lancaster
and potentially £509 from Adrian Flux.

(Interestingly I have managed to get £409 from Axa, but I'm immediatly worried that they have probably mis-interpretted my needs as a lightly modified land rover owner..??)

Then as a newbie do a search as there are 2 threads about flux and you need to contact ED about things with your details through a PM and then come back

Aye. Thats why the flux price is still "potentially" as I appreciate I need to give him + the landyzone deal a chance first.

Thing is there are dozens of Flux threads + posts, a handful of impressed customers and a fistful of hateful ones.. but then there is only one or two on Lancaster, and not giving a very balanced view.

I was hoping perhaps to get some views in one place for future scrollers to find as a summary of the two side by side?
 
Lancaster just cancelled mine because when they quoted me they asked what security my td5 defender had ,I told them i did not know if it had any as i had not picked it up yet so they checked the reg plate and told me what it had gave me a quote which i took up and paid for in full,a week later I got a letter from them asking for a thatcham security document, WTF? so i called customer services explained the above they said they were cancelling my insurance and I will pay a cancellation charge(£50) if I do not re-insure with them at a higher premium which is more than I was quoted by other companies when i first got quotes:rolleyes:Customer service is non exsistant
Bunch of thieves who want it all there own way.
I am going to make a complaint to the insurance ombudsman if they do not refund me in full.
 
Been with flux for 6 years, never had a problem. They will be able to give you more options if you ask. At 22 with 4years no clams I was insuring a 3 year old Shogun Sport with full off road cover for £650. Never delt with anybody else since.

Slightly sidetracking the thread ..... I didnt think you had to get special insurance for green laning ? Aren't they covered under general car insurance terms :confused:

Nope not all of them cover greenlaning and it can be a total grey area, whilst byways are under the same highways laws as Tarmac roads a lot of insurers stipulate not green laning as they group it in with 'off road' so a lot of the underwriters can wriggle out of putting their hands in the coffers when claims are made :eek:

So if you're not asked do you have to declare it. ..ive only ever had insurance through bog standard insurance companies and they've never asked :confused:

Not sure how you'd stand on a claim Hun really don't know. The majority of bog standard covers stipulate not green lanes so you'd have to rummage through your cover documents, as I believe if you are on a green lane you are required to have insurance because its still classed as highway doodad and there are other users who could claim against you. :eek:

Sorry, I thought there was no need for me as your fellow forum members have answered your worries accurately.

The best bet to find out if you have cover is by talking to your insurers. Some of them will hide a clause in the insurance that would invalidate the cover on the green lanes, leaving you open to civil law suits in the event of an accident.

I got it in writing that I would be covered on any public highway that I have the right to drive on.
My carefully worded question to avoid words like offroad or greenlane :) two can play the game...

Just be careful when it comes to 'Pay and Play'. Since you have paid to be on the course, it may no longer be considered a public highway, and if the insureance companies want to be pedantic, comes in to line with track days. This certainly isn't an issue at Adrian Flux, but the larger 'mainstream' insurers may find ways to avoid paying out as much as possible.
