Hi all, quick bit of advise required.

Was doing a Service last night, and decided to change the sump gasket at the same time seeing as its got a bit of a leak.

That (being what i read as the difficult bit) Was easy. Changed it over, and lined it up pretty quick.

So onto the Oil filter. Stuck, had this before, But with a filter tool (though not a chain) I couldn't get it to move. Stupidly thought "i could tap that round with a hammer and chisel" But no, ****part filter been on 3 months, and sized solid, also made of cheese compared with Genuine LR one.

So some abuse later the Filter is mangled and still no closer to moving.

So as its only a couple miles from work to the Garage, i thought i'd be able to drive (as it'd sat running -albeit noisy- when i moved it to clean up the oil). But after about 200m of driving, it clonked out. So kind of what i expected, but i'd hoped to get a bit closer to the garage!)

My question is, does any have a rough idea of whats the problem may be? seeing as it now won't start.
And or the damage that may have ensued?

I assume something to do with the lack of compression?

Its an old (reconditioned) 19J. Which I do plan to swap it at some point when i can afford a 200tdi.

Cheers in advance.

It's called engine seizure due to lack of lubrication....

I think you'll need your new engine now or spend a fortune on re-reconditioning that one

was you loosing oil out of your filter, you cant really blame **** filter for that .it happens alot if they have been done tight rubber seal grips, your supposed to knock top edge with screw driver,

Yea the filter had spat a load of oil out.

so I know the engine was running quite dry.

When you try to start it, it sounds like struggling to turn over (like a dead battery)

as bromsgrove said ,cant believe you do that ,6-7 litres doesnt take very long at all to come out at 60 psi ,200 tdi here you come , ive got a 200 tdi disco engine for sale:)

So you intentionally drove your landy knowing it had little oil and was still losing oil....?

I think you kinda deserve the fact your now going to have to buy a 200tdi.
Like the one James has for sale :p;)

Not a good place to find yourself

If you can't turn it over easily with a large socket on the crankshaft pulley, I'd say it's dead.

A hard lesson to learn

Are you for real!!! So you left it running with no oil in to clean the oil up then decided to drive it to the garage with no oil in! Wtf you sir are a mong...............

My word oli i cant believe im reading this ! Lemme know when you plan to swap .....might come for a swatch and supervise nothing like this happens to the new engine while fitting :)

(That's presuming he refilled it after doing the sump gasket )

Yes i know i was a right royal fanny. But when your angry and upset you tend not to think straight! Hey ho **** happens.

I have just realised i've got another 19J about 10 miles away. So i may pop that in to tide me over.
