Picked up 4.0 P38 around 12:30 on 29th December, by 17:00 new battery being fitted, as it's got LPG that srewed up coz of the loss of power, can't get that looked at until 13th so its booked in for then.

31st December 14:00 - Won't start ECU runs up, then just a slight click when turning to start position, checked cables and voltage to starter motor, solenoid not engaging....

Called RAC out, definate starter motor issue, phone garage I bought it off, they'll have it in and fix not until Monday 5th.

Now 6th, garage want the mechanic to fit an old motor that I think he got from the scrappy, I want a new one....Impass...........

Might just let him fit the old on get it going, have LPG re-set up then flog it, or am I being too impatient?
 
Well if yu got it from a dealer, I would just let him carry on fixin it til the warranty runs out then see what yu got.

Get him to pay for all your repairs, an if he chooses to use second hand parts, make sure he offers some guarantee on them. Er Indoors had some second hand bits fitted under warranty and they were guaranteed for beyond the original warranty.
 
check with citizens advice think you will find 3 month statutory warranty, place I bought my vw tried to get out of fixing it and with the citizens advice people- I paid nothing
 
You start your post off by saying you are not happy you bought a Range Rover, this is the same Range Rover you personally checked over and was satisfied with before you habded over any cash. The battery failed after just a few hours of ownership so that was definately knackered before you drove it away, not the fault of the Range Rover then, the LPG system went wrong, not a standard item, so again, not a fault of the Range Rover. Starter motor failed, covered by garage you bought from so hardly an issue. You havent yet said that you are selling the vehicle you chose, however, you are quick to say you wish you hadnt bought it. Perhaps you should have started your post in a more friendly manner explaining the problem and letting the forum members give you the years of valuable advice they have. I am sure the these minor faults will be corrected swiftly and from what you say, at no cost to you. Other problems will no doubt occur because it is a complex vehicle, same with any other car on the road today. Some never seem to have an issue but others of exact make, age, model, etc are always going wrong. There is no logic to it, it's just part and parcel of vehicle ownership.

Of course I checked it over and researched the years of ownership experience on here, double checking everything, as the owners on here advised. and having driven vehicles of all sorts for 30 odd years, raced bikes at a reasonable club level, I understand the failings of mechanical parts and those of electrical items (fully qualified time served electrician), Just a catalogue of bad luck, guess I'm lucky I have a series 5 BMW, 2.7L V6 coupe and 3 motorcycles to fall back on......

Oh and it's now fixed and ready for collection, including an oil change (on the house), I'll try to be less light hearted and more serious if I post again.....

Told off, I hardly think so. It was a good response to the original post and gave an sight into the owner of the vehicle. Surely my defence of the vehicle itself, which is constantly berated isnt considered unworthy on this forum. I for one enjoyed reading the reply, I didnt feel told off or put down.

it's an unwritten rule that if you post in the RR bit you can only talk about how reliable yer vehicle is and how much you spend "improving" it

banter is also not permitted

however they do appear to enjoy a weeky "my wallet is considerably bigger than your wallet" compertition
 
its not a case of welcome to range rover ownership its welcome to P38 ownership, the abortion of the brand, we all take the **** out of freelanders but p38s take the biscuit

should have bought a proper rangerover! or a disco or a defender or a series of a 101 or a shortland but not a shortland armoured p38

Yea whatever, your just jelous!

My wallets way bigger than yours! Theres feck all in it because I've just brought a range rover with a duff engine... but the wallet it's self is a larger than average size :p

your wallet may well be bigger than mine but i suspect the empty void in your head where your brain should be is far far larger than mine
 
Previous owner said it was all "in fully working order", obviously its not :rolleyes: so he's paying for the work to be done to get it to "fully working order" including a knackered blender motor. Wasn't a bad purchase considering that. :D

On the upside all running sweet now, just need to get the LPG reset next week, to get rid of the "lumpy" running on Gas........
