Snow tyres

Hey all just a quick question.

I currently have a set of road tyres on my disco. am just wondering what would be better for snow when witner rolls around

I would advise that you get yourself a set of AT²'s and leave them on all year round - they are great tyres in all conditions. Particularly in snow. I was towing our horse trailer full of hay last year in the snow - not even a hint of breaking traction, really excellent.

hi I've got michellin road tyres 235x70 fitted and never had a problem with all the snow last winter even on hills or where it was quite deep in northumberland.never even needed difflock.So unless your planning offroad you should be ok.

I think mud Tyres are probably good in snow, whereas ice gyres are different.

Afaik cold weather Tyres have more silica to help them grip on slippery surfaces. A good bit of soft snow off road will probably respond well to mud Tyres if you don't let them spin up.

Whereas icy roads like they have in Norway/Sweden etc need special Tyres, even studded etc.

Weather in britain is too tame, use your MUDs or ATs.

General Grabber AT 2'S are realy good i had a set on my laqst disco got to 30k miles still good and brill in snow. I now live in Aberdeen with another disco so i will need another set for this winter !

to be honest you wouldn't believe where you can go on road tyres as long as you use the right gear/revs approach.. and loads of engine braking on the downhill bits.. just go slow.. snow tyres could be a big waste of money

BFG AT's all the way - went snow drift bashing up in the hills round here last winter -16 3ft of snow and 45mph - bit of a mad moment that.

paying for it now though cos of all the salt.

As has been said by other's before me, get yourself a set of these and use them all year, I never once got stuck in the snow last winter (never needed to use low range or difflock). AND if it get's really grim, they allow the fitting of snow/ice spikes!

Over here in Poland we get a lot of snow. Grabber AT2's work fantastically. Traction control never even cut in when 2ft or so of snow on the ground

Spent a lot of time looking into tyres last year.
Result

Went for All terrains on my landy, Insa turbo ranger, great tyre, b*gger to balance but Craddocks have a great tyre fitter and he sorted.
Used in snow and mud on last years Mac 4x4 and Very pleased with them.

My daughters Suzuki Jimny (yes I Know), went for Avon Ice tyres and we use them all round.

The Ice tyre is a softer compound but has not shown high tyre wear. It’s brilliant off road, in the rain, in the dry and not surprisingly brilliant in the winter.
