Snow machine!!

The snow is up to 8" now where I live, so I decided to try my luck and see if the '93 Land Rover Discovery 2.5TD I4 could make it out... And it did!

I even made it up a long steep hill without a single spin!

I love my Landy! :)

I haven't tried the ole '89 Discovery 3.5 V8 Automatic yet, but being an auto I assume it'll be pretty rubbish! Though, it is a 3 door, so maybe not!

Tell you what, it is a bit low on petrol, so I'll take take her out to fill up and report back!
 
yep just been for a 40 mile round trip in mine we have around 18" never got stuck anywhere,couldnt even make out where the road was most of the time,was great fun added benefits of pulling cars out ditches on the way even passed the gritter that was stuck at roadside and driver said road was impassable...not to the old disco..
 
Well, after sitting 2 weeks the fuel in the engine had all went back to the tank, so it took a bit of cranking to start her up, but she did eventually in a ploom of grey smoke!

After warming the engine up for a few minutes I put it into R and backed up. The tyres hit the snow with a thud and I expected it to bog down and stop dead. But no! Alright, a little spinning of the tyres, but it still kept going!

After backing up, I put it in D and headed for the big steep hill the diesel Disco made it up, and be it a bit slower, the V8 made it to the top... Then it decided to bog down and not go any further! So I dug it out and once it got upto 45MPH I was fine for the rest of the trip!

It must have been absolutely freezing because the temperature needle barely left the cold mark!

its the time of the year again to stick the fingers up to the goverment and their 'eco friendly smart cars'!!!
 
I was out in my TD5 & my mate was in his 300Tdi playing silly bugers in all that lovely snow its great to see just where your disco will go & how much fun it is . It`s funny look at the face`s of all the land rover drivers you pass we all have that smug look knowing we can go anywhere anytime in this weather :D
 
I feel the same guys it's a great feeling. I towed a articulated lorry up a hill in snow the other day, I was absolutely gob smacked at how capable the traction control on the disco 2 td5 is. Was even better when I saw the look on some peoples faces in disbelief. I wish I could have taped it for you guys, was awsome.
 
I just remember a superb poster I saw somewhere. Said, "There is a name for non Land Rover drivers in winter. Pedestrians." It's great to get the little knowing nod, smug smile and the one-finger wave from other Landy drivers as you barrel along where others fear to put rubber.

The snow isn't too bad around me as we've only had a couple of inches so far. The bigger problem is ice. Narrow country lanes, which of course never see a gritter, but with big camber on them and even bigger ditches on both sides. It's mean I know but there is a certain degree of satisfaction driving past the other cars crawling along at 10 mph, their drivers clutching onto the wheel with fright, and in the Disco I shoot past doing 50. My only concern is if they lose it and come into me.

I wonder how many ecomentalists would stick to their scruples when they are nose down in a ditch and turn a Landy away because of its emissions?
 
I went out for a play in my disco night before last, we had between 4-6 inches... had great fun laning and ducking under snow covered trees! Best bit was making use of a mates field to perfect 4th gear low range rally car style power sliding! I had to stop after about 5mins straight cos my face hurt from smiling too much! lol

If you're going along at 50mph on ice it'll be you doing the sliding mate, no matter how many wheel drive you have.

Ice means no grip - end of. Unless you've got studded tyres of course?
 
Despite the government giving us 4x4 owners a hard time over high road tax, and the 'global warming' brigade casting us as the devil, the police couldn't get enough of them last year when it snowed. A mate in Hampshire works in a main LR dealership, every single 4x4 on the premises was hired out to the police. Definately a case of double standards. I wonder how many of the 'Global Warning' bods were rescued by 4x4's, or did they just say "were not contributing to global warming so bugger off, we'll stay here and freeze to death" :D
