Frost and Snow

Snap !!!! the blade had frozen to the window and snapped the arm by the motor.

The moral is

Clean the window and check the blade is free before swithing on the wipers or you will end up with the hassle of removing not just the spare wheel but also the mounting bracket to fit a new arm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lucky for you it was the arm and not the motor.

hi you dont need to remove the spare wheel carrier to remove and replace rear wiper

I can't see how else you can replace the arm when it snapped at the end by the motor?
take spare wheel off there is a whole in the spare wheel carrier and that hole lines up with the nut that holds arm on put soceket in undo nut then remove arm or broken bit of arm

Remember folks that you need not necessarily have to switch the rear wiper on - if your fronts are on and you reverse it'll activate the rear wiper for you too.

Thanks for the tip ted - you'd have thought that the motor would fail safe in the event of overload instead of snapping the wiper - oh wait no - this is a land rover we're talking about!:p

Ah, so that's why I keep wondering why the rear wiper keeps coming on by itself. Saved me a trip to the manual again... :)

haveing just picked mine up yesterday and not knowing where every thing is this morning I couldnt see where the rear wiper switch was it came on by itself (it was dark at 4am) now I know how ,got to work and found it staight away

Thought everyone knew about the reversing/rear wiper operation. Makes you wonder why car manufacturers bother printing manuals.

If they didn't print em people would say I aint got a manual instead of saying it's not in the manual.:mooning: :D :D :D

Too true, though you'd think if they're planning on bull****ting they'd at least make it sound good.

For the folks who haven't read the manual, if you leave the rear wiper on, it will automatically switch over to intermittant mode after about 4 wipes being switched on.

Thanks for the tip. Our newly purchased Freelander 2002 has the snapped rear wiper and having taken the wheel off, I was sure until I read this post that I would have to take the carrier off.

I snapped the linkage of my passengers front wiper last week bought a metal clip off flea blag and fitted it on [easy job] and greased up all the linkages , anyhows i was so impressed with this linkage that have now bought another for the drivers side ,its spose to be a temp fix but its better than the original :)

I read mine but failed to notice that... was swearing at it for ages as it didn't seem to have an intermittent setting for the rear, then I noticed the LR Pixies had done their thing and it had gone intermittent after a while...

Guess am a saddo here but when there is a frost I put grease proof paper between the wipers and the windscreen both front and rear. Never had a wiper blade freeze to either screen yet.

Ah, how about LR's latest Freelander accessory...?
