Snorkels and Light bars on a series

Hi all..

Now my 2a has an MOT, I want to kit it up..

I really want a Snrokel and light bar (The kind which enables you to fit lights above your windscreen) I have a 1969 2a which currently has a hardtop but will be going back to truck cab soon.

So what are my options for a snorkel?. I have thought about making one, But It will cost me £45-50 so wouldnt be Ideal. So Im looking at buying a new one for a 2.25 diesel Second hand or new..

Also thinking about making a roof light bar, Any ideas on doing this?. I think £55 for a new light bar without lights is a bit daft so would whether make one or buy one second hand..

So does anyone have advice, Photos or perhaps a snorkel or Light bar for sale?.

Or even photos of such items fitted to their series?.

It wunt cost yer anywhere near 45 knicker ter make a snork'. Go raid the rainwater goods section of yer local hardware shop.

Fairly easy ter make a light bar an orl. The most expensive bit'll be the lights.

Thanks Grippa. Well Im in the Plumbing trade, I was going to use like you said, Down pipe from a rain water gutter system. But I think it'll look naff and I want it to look decent. Any chance of some close ups of your Snorkel system.. I added £25 to the price as I would buy the proper mushroom top for it at paddocks, I'm no fan of bunging a K'N on top of one..

Also could I have some close ups of your lightbar please?. And thats a tasty landy there mate, Also has the steering guard I'll soon purchase!

So yer saying my snork looks naff? :eek:

I'm just having a look ter see if I've got any closer up wuns. Might put a 'shroom on the top of mine at some point, but I have ter say the upturned, large aerosol cap on it at the mo' doesn't seem to restrict me V8, keeps the water out & although it's got a few dents, hasn't yet been lost to an overhanging branch like a 'shroom wun would (eh, HB? ;) )

I'll have ter take some pics of the light bar, but its basically two triangularish plates with a right angle flange that bolt into the gutters & fix onto a sguare section tube. Piece o' ****!

Me ol' snork wuz nice, stainless it were....................er, but we dun't talk about wot wuz fixed to the end! :eek:

I've just bought the Stainless Steel one from Southdown, it looks the nuts, will post pics as soon as it's fitted.

Actually looks very neat, I see what you've done now, I though you used a 45 bend which normally looks nafff, but you've used rubber pipe to connect the two. Looks very neat mate, I'll have to look into one like that, But Im still gona buy the proper mushroom top ;)

Light bar looks great too. I was thinking of doing along the same lines but could do with some photos to work from, So I'll look forward to them. I have enough scrap about here to make one anyway. Would need to find some regtangular driving lamps though which shouldnt be a problem, Ill probably go for 55w x 4 as 6 is far to many..

Thanks Grippa, Its great to be on a forum where theres people I can ask questions like this too without getting bombarded by rivet counters telling me what I need and dont need. :rolleyes:
 
Oooohhh tah, just made me mind up about how i'm gonna run the pipe from me snorkel (when i buy it) to my speckle snorkel filter box :D was thinking of a light bar, but i think i got enough. might stick some small ones when i get the series a grandad cap!
 
This is my attempt at a snork it does the job and has a mushroom on't top from island 4X4 in kent(cheaper than paddocks at the time) it dunt let any water in and has seen water deep enough to test all the joints as for a light bar i am planning on making one mysen as soon as i can get round to it, too many jobs on round the house, on the landy and on my motorbike to add toys

I could have made it a bit neater but that would look out of place with the rest of the landy, all it is is a section of black down pipe i cut a slice out of it bent the pipe to the rough angle then using a soldering iron i melted the section i had cut out back over the top of the hole any missing bits were filled in with black cable ties, the hoses at the bottom are rover 214 inlet hose from the airbox to the fannymould found downt he local breakers for £3 each (you need 2) the whole thing cost me less than £35 including the mushroom top and perchace of the soldering iron which i broke doh
