Fer a snork to fit a Series (especially these days - 3 years ago or so there was loads) you're going to have to 'lash' some part or other together. Series snork 'kits' are generally, at best, a stainless tube and a mushroom top/goldfish bowl.

You'll have to source the pipework to connect to the air filter (scrappies or some Defender pipework works.......can't remember the part number mind) & if you have an oil bath filter the easiest thing is to get a 200Tdi airbox & fit it in the same space.

The rainwater goods section at B&Q is a good place for a large grommet for where the snork' goes through the bodywork.

If I replace me 'lashed up' drainpipe, I'll probably just get a stainless tube bent up at the same time I get my new eggzorst made, it'll probably work out cheaper than what's sold as Series snorks anyways!

The snork on me old III was pretty straightforward. The clamp holding the pipe was a Hilti pipe clamp & the white box hides my embarassment!

i have a sneaky suspicion that the Deepender 200 TDI can be bodged to suite. I think it depends on wot injun yu got fitted and to where the air inlet is sited.

I concur entirely, Grippa - with the proviso of, maybe, being rather more circumspect with regard to the apparatus being used to stop the ingress of air born moisture;).

Coddy did say, tho, that he didnt want a "drainpipe lashup"

The Safari 300TDi / TD5 snorkel works just fine on a Series. You need to mark up the area on the wing carefully, drill the three holes for the studs and then use a hole saw to cut the hole for the pipe. Then it's just a case of some flex pipe from the snorkel pipe to the air cleaner.

You will want to change the air cleaner top for one of the later / MOD ones that are designed for use with a snorkel.

There will be a 2.8 Daihatsu lump in the Series, with the Daihatsu airbox which will be good for a snorkel, under the bonnet pipework Im not too fussed about but would like the car to look decent from outside.

Like the look of the ones that enter the side of the wing rather than from above it, but I guess space is whats going to be the decider.

2 reasons I dint mention Safari type snork's. First, before I flogged me Deepender I considered keeping me safari snork to put on me Series. I sized it up against me III & it just rilly din't look right (ok, so that's jest personal taste!).

Second, there's been quite a few times I am totally sure I would have torn off/severly damaged a Safari type snork & I've met several people who have done just that. Part of the beauty of a III is that is totally square with no sticky out bits. If you can get the front end through something you know there's nothing else to snag & it's going to fit...........well, cept' yer mirrors & they just generally fold back with a 'clunk' without busting.............most of the time!

Would the snork not go on the passenger side, as it's nearer the carb, or am I being totally stooopid as usual.

It's just that I'm thinking of putting one on Bessie.

Yay for the fish bowl!

To me the effort of taking stainless pipe to a bender (pipe bender that is) seems all a bit pointless....as long as you have a saw and someone that can weld you can make bends anyway...and it's not like there are many of them!

I am very happy with my home brew...it is pretty indestructable and IMHO looks alright too..used a 90 degree elbow (£9) and a Britpart snorkel top (£10) and the rest was home brew brackets, random bits of pipe etc. Got an early RRC airbox to replace the oil bath thing. Would seem crazy to me to buy something that didn't fit particularly well which perhaps needs modifying when it doesn't take much time effort or money to make your own!
