I got a safari snorkel from the salvage yard for my 200tdi. What is the best way to attach the base of the snorkel, which attached to wing? bolts and nuts aint gona work are they. tap in screws? any ideas what size is best. I got M6 1/2" for the upright attachment to the window frame, then again I got some M4 1/2" if you think there better for the upright.

I have some plastic seal thing, should I put sealant to it, so it sticks to the snorkel, then again to the wing?.

When you take the vent off, there is a slight gap (few mm) between the vent and the wing, should I fill this up with sealant?

ive just spent ages doing mine and not ther yet as airbox is leaking. i made up a new panel made out of sheet metal with a bit of tube welded onto it and fixed that to the outside of the bodywork. then used bolts to attach the snorkle and used silicon sealant between the body and the snorkle. also filled up the bolt holes with siliconas i had to drill mine larger so it comprimised the air chamber but i doubt you will hav to do that.

how can you tell if airbox is leaking? you didnt do it by drilling in prep for the snorkel did ya, I have wondered if I when I get round to drilling or what ever I end up doing that the vent might get damaged.

you must have taken the wing of?? in order to bolt the metal, snorkel to the wing? is this the only way? bet its well secure tho.

you got any pics? ie of the stages you are going throught, went etc

can take sum 2mz. no took heater off instead. no the airbox is leakin cos wen i block the top off the snorkle can hear air hissing in around the top of it so tried siliconing that. need to test it again.

what you need iare rivnuts. seal it with silicone, when new there is a foam seal to take up the slight differences between the plastic and the wing, use loads of silicone, clear (translucent) is best

wilt that is a pretty smart idea! thats plastic tube with sealant holding it in place right.

I got the foam seal, thats what I ment before should I put silocone to it to sandwich to snorkel, and to the wing.

rivnuts, still need to get on the other side of the wing tho right to fit other side of the riv? So how does one go about this, it dont look very spacey around tht vent area!

what i done was used a piece of rigid flat plastic cutout from the bottom of a toolbox, cut the hole in the centre for the tube and then used tiger seal to bond to the snorkel and to bond the tube to the centre section, you then do away with the flat inner wing piece,

centre section, as in the tube that connects to the flat vent section? do you then lose the top vent as well? as there is two vent entraces on my 200tdi. Dont happen to have pictures do ya? of the under the bonnet view. That sounds like the most effiecient way of doing it, as long as the bonds are secure, your sound. Nice!
