New to this, so just want to check about a sort-of silly question. Obviously getting water into the snorkel is bad; but how much would cause an issue? Like obviously rain isn't a problem, but what about a car wash? Especially hand ones where most of it is hosepipes; presumably they should know not to spray at it? But should I take any extra precautions?

Two points here, If you can find an auto car wash which can take a Disco, rejoice. Down this way they just don't exist.
On the subject of the hand-wash places, I know that the people working there are often foreign, usually Polish but don't worry, they can usually understand enough English if you say to them, "Please don't spray water into the snorkel", you might have to explain the term snorkel.
The alternative doesn't bear thinking about ...... you might have to wash it yourself.

Just preventively clog the intake with a piece of cloth or something before they start washing it then remove it and up you go

I can just see the next post "Disco not revving after washing"!

Brightly coloured carrier bag and elastic band over the intake, should stand out enough to remind you.

The places I go wash while you're running so they can keep cars moving through, so not sure that'll work very well
