Good afternoon folks,

New here and looking for some advice. I have a 2005 TD4 that lacks power. I mean really lacks it. My mum also has a freelander 1 with the TD4 and hers is a dream to drive in comparison.

I have had it on snap on diag today and no fault codes were found but I took a snap shot of the live data. The first picture in each series is at idle and the second at approx 2000rpm.

There is a variation in requested pressure/amount and actual. Please have a nosey and see if everything is normal here or if there is clearly a fault!

It has had the egr removed and blanked before my ownership otherwise it is stock.

Thanks in advance

You MAF signal is strange. The actual mass measured is well above what is expected. I presume that's coming from the diagnostic equipment?.
Why not run the same test on the other TD4 and compare data with that?
Have you unplugged the MAF sensor to see if performance improves?

Will try on the other td4 and unplug maf and go for a drive ! Thought it'd throw a code if the maf was duff?

Sorry mate, you are simply stabbing in the dark with the 'live data' tests - just because the instrument can do it - doesn't mean the input is useful, you are actually complicating systems.

First step - as no codes are present and you are not fully conversant in real time data- throw away the snap on reader.
NOW, unplug the MAF sensor and drive it ? how does it perform > basics are what you need dude - not overly complex data on a screen taht has probably nothing at all to do with you fault.

Hi mate and thanks for the input! It's not my snap on so best not throw it away lol besides it was proved somewhat useful in that accurate or not it alerted me to the fact that something may be wrong regarding the maf and that could be my issue.

Regardless of all that, I'm about to head out with the dogs so will unplug the maf before I set off and see how it drives.

I've had a quick scan of eBay and see 2 different set ups of the ronbox unit are available

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231593922494

The difference in the 2 appears to be a dash switch from what I can tell... anyone any experience with these?

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo - DO NOT presume the so called 'ronbollox' is a cure to a MAF issue !!!!

Simply disconnect it - let it run on the backup map and then report back. The RON Bo'llo'x doesn nada for a working MAF - and does NADA for a replacement MAF - It is CON ology ..... YOU _ DO NOT IN ANY WAY EVER NEED _ A SO CALLED RON BOX FOR A MAF ISSUE ! PERIOD !!!.

Hope that is clear - ignore the total Bullsh!t on the website ... look at the facts and symptoms.

SO much cr&p surrounds this 'maf amp total BS'

The dash switch gives you 3 extra settings.
Eco, Normal, Sporty. to make it simple to understand.

Just they sell it as a kit with a new pierburg MAF is all. No worries if it's a con

Yes 100 % - it is a con ! the Pierbufrg maf happens to fit in the space, - so they con you into buying it and the ridiculously expensive MAF AMP
NONE of these are needed, just buy A CHEAP REPLACEMENT OFF OF EBAY it will do all you need and save you the ridiculous expense and hassle of the con job maf amp box.
The Pierburg MAF they quote is NOT designed for your engine ! period !... contact Pierburg and they WILL sell you - at the same price - one that IS designed for your engine - or preferably - as said - buy one from ebay - or from a breakers.
YOU ARE being conned ....................

Err no, it doesn't, it is simply a con job to make you feel it has done something - yes it has - but NOT in the way the eco - normal - sporty - says - pure BS.
Do not even consider the fitting of the con box until you have isolated the issue. - it definitely can offer a performance increase with a worse MPG - BUT is not a REPLACEMENT FOR A REASONABLE DIAGNOSTIC ON A TROUBLESOME maf -

Do not be conned by misleading advertising. ii is mostly utter BS> !

For the record. My new MAF works better than the Synergy and old MAF combination;)
I'm currently running my own TD4 with the Synergy turned off. TBH there isn't much difference in performance. The new MAF has, as expected, improved performance considerably ;)
