Hi all having an issue with a smoky startup, gone through and read loads of threads and followed loads of advice but now not sure where to go next.

Basically on start up it pretty smoky (white) I'd say unburnt diesel rather than coolant.

It was constantly smokey but I've cleaned the egr, cleaned the intercooler and pipes, cleaned the inlet manifold. Oil change along with filters and the crankcase filter. This improved it once it had warmed, so I blanked the egr.

Even after a run it's not smoky but does have a burning oil/diesel smell.

I'm leaning towards faulty glow.plugs. I tried to test them tonight but could only get the caps off two, one was reading 10k ohm and the other was open circuit.

I'll add it has no issue starting, fires right up.

Would faulty glow.plugs cause it to smoky in this weather as it's still mild??

Sounds more like one or more leaky injectors to me. If it was doing the same during the summer then the glow plugs were not being used anyway.

I was leaning more towards injectors to be honest as the weather is warm. Like I say once being driven it seems to clear up but when you stop and idle it has that smoky smell but no real smoke to speak off.
Do you think a diesel injector cleaner ran through it would help or will it be injectors out for a rebuild?

I'd stick a couple of bottles of Comma Diesel Magic in the tank when filling with fuel. Then give it an "Italian tune up". ;)

If there's no improvement, then go down the injector rebuild route.

There’s another thread on here with similar complaint and he’s replaced injectors and it’s still smokey on start up so have a good check before you spend money on injectors as I believe they’re not cheap

No I wouldn't have thought the injectors have been touched to be honest.

A little update though, yesterday put Wynn's injector cleaner in and gave it an Italian tune up. Left it over night to settle and started it this morning.......smoke on start up . But only a little puff which I'd expect from any diesel and that was it thanks for the advice guys worked like a dream. Will give it another good run today aswell
