Hi every one av just had a service done including the crankcase filter and put on a egr delete and it's still smoking whilst held at 2k and has got a slight miss fire any ideas on what it could possibly be would be much appreciated

I've a theory that it's a mapping error. I know of one TD4 that was cured of the 2K misfire, by having a remap.

I've also thought that it could be the PCV valve stuck open. This is fine while on boost. However in times of high engine speed and low boost, like when holding it a 2K off load. Then in these conditions, a small amount of oil is drawn into the inlet manifold. However this theory was scuppered by another member who still had the 2K misfire, after the PCV valve was replaced.
Investigation will continue, and someone will find a cure. I gave up look and just enjoy driving it.

Cheers again m8 you've calmed me down a bit lol al just drive it now and keep an eye on here to see if anyone comes up with a solution. How long have you drove yours with the problem

As @Nodge68 says, don't worry about it. You've just joined a very select club, the 2000rpm misfire club.
I've recently left. Mine doesn't do it anymore. I have absolutely no idea what I did to stop it, as I'm always messing around with bits and tweaking stuff.
I'm sure I'll be back when I mess with something else:)

Cheers for the heads up m8 Al just drive her as she is see if it decided to clear it''s self up

My theory on it is that it could be one of three issue's maf, air filter not letting enough air through, or glow plugs, anyone ever tried removing the white cover off the air filter, and also removing one of the plastic caps under the air filter allowing air in from below, sometimes I think the maf blips and therefore gets wrong readings, but all only theory not proof, but I am sure someone will find the solution, as above drive it, keep air filter clean change regular, keep manifold and Map sensor clean, add bypass EGR or clean regular, and of cause change oil regular.

Cheers for the reply m8 I will just persevere with it hopefully it clears it's self

Mine only does it at running temperature. It doesn't misfire at 2K if the engine hasn't reached running temperature. This counts out the glow plugs completely.
Mine does it with the old Bosch MAF, the cheap EBay MAF and the Rover Ron recommended Peirburg MAF.

I did think that it's something to do with the EGR deletion. Maybe the EDC is getting confused when it's expecting the O2 level to reduce during EGR operation. The EDC would reduce fuel to compensate with information from the MAF. However if the MAF still registers no drop in air mass, because the EGR recirculation hasn't taken place. Then it could well be confused and instigates a misfire as a result. This would explain why it only does it when running temperature is reached. However this wouldn't fully explain the smoke at 2K.
I'm still thinking about it, but I'm not worried about it.

I have still got the egr value Al just give it a clean and whip it back on and see if miss fire stops Al keep you posted nodge and again thanks for your advice all is appreciated

Hi Tucka. Strangely enough mines started doing after changing maf and pressure valve? Cured everything by changing the turbo and have now created smoke again by changing these two items but did check my pcv (new bmw type and have found there's no oil getting up there now! Maybe they just don't like being disturbed.Who knows?

That's interesting to know m8 as av just put in the new type pcv and av not changed the maf at all I have the old type pcv there which is brand new might be worth putting that one in and just changing regular. Did u say it was your turbo that was causing your smoking at first or just after those two items cheers for the reply aswell much appreciated

Hi Tucka. Yes it was the turbo that was causing the initial problem, looked like a genie was trying to escape! As engine gets hotter it reduces slightly as it then starts to burn off after 10/15 minutes rather than just visible vapour. spent a fortune on injectors/glow plugs and then got told by a mechanic (this is only a rule of thumb by the way) injectors----- BLACK SMOKE , blue smoke --- TURBO. also what can help if you get problems is change the fuel filter.Mine hadn't been changed since it was put together 10 yrs ago and even the earth crumbled in my hands. putting a new earth on has stopped the pump straining it's guts as you may hear from a very heavy buzzing on the back.let me know if this helps.

P.S . what is the vehicle. mine is last of the Freelander 1 td4 (2006) and i'm still learning myself

Mines a 2006 Cheers Al keep you posted just a quick question how much did you end up paying for a new turbo

I paid £344 reconed from Turbo solutions in darlington but have seen them second on eBay for £280. Roughly £680 to £780 new.
reconed really are just as good as all major components are changed . Got a 2yr warranty with mine.let me know how you got on?
