Smokie start up

Can anyone advise me on this please,
Ive just bought a Landy 90, and every time I start the engine it smokes on start up, but quickly clear's then ok, is this normal with 114000 miles,or is there a big problem ?Also when driving theres a tick tick tick sound coming from around the gear stick area gets quicker as I go faster,but you can hear it less when speeding up, what could this be?

smoking is normal on start up..if it clears in a minute or so its fine they nearly all do it..

if its above the gearstick it might be the clock

UJ's? COuld be a warning sign.
Or perhaps a damaged exhaust gasket.

Does the ticking noise sound electrical - there could be something going on in the fuse box, dodgy fuse or short? (it would be more "Clicking" than ticking though but you see what i mean?!)

Smoke is normal on startup. I would only worry if it ever stops doing it!

No I dont think its electrical, Only does it when driving, it doesnt do it if you take it out of gear to run freely.

Maybe its a sticky injector and it sounds like its coming from the tranny area... my No. 4 injector does it sometimes and it does seem to come from the the fuse box area - just the way the sound travels - would fit with "it gets quicker as I go faster".

It 'might' be yer fuel lift pump

Could be the speed drive in the gearbox, does yer speed read ok or is it fluctuatin?

smokie start up is fine mine does that but as u say it clear so all fine!!
the ticking could be a few things, it would b worth getting your running gear checked out. i.e diffs, cv's, gear box, tranny box. but as the other chap said it may be something a lot less serious!

Speedo works ok, the engine runs fine apart from ticking noise

Does the ticking speed up with engine speed or road speed? Still think UJ's.

noisey tappets maybe? they make a clicking sound which varies with engine speed

I would say Road Speed, as when clutch is depressed the noise stops,only happens in drive. and get quicker with speed.

If its uj's is this a big problem or expensive to fix

Speeking of noisey ticking sounds, did you figour out that renalt?

if it is the uj's make sure they get changed b4 they get too bad cous if they do the prop could come off and when ur doing 60 mph that can cause a fuk of a lot of damage and a simple 20 quid fix becomes £'sssss
