My Freelander has developed a rather odd fault. When I drive along it looses power and then chucks out a cloud of black and white smoke. It then after a few seconds clears and drives superbly for about another few miles. Then… it happens again. Just down by the passenger foot well it makes a bit of a humming noise just as it happens and when stops there is a tiny grinding noise for a few sends from the same spot… then fine. When not doing it it drives fine...

Any thoughts????

At times there is a bit of white smoke too, but rarely.

Have a good look at all of your manifold hoses i have had two go on mine each with smoke/lack of power. Did not notice those noises though, but the stereo is usually blastin' out some rory gallagher or similar.

The Turbocharger is close to that area. Worth checking for loose or split air or vacuum pipes to start with.

Esay fix... hole in hose from intercooler to EGR valve. Job done, no smoke, runs well... or as well as a td4 does!

just replaced both of my hoses with silicone, i am sure it feels even better now than before and they do last a lot longer. You say that you freelander is running as well as a freelander does, Have you tried fitting a rover ron box, blanking off the egr and adding millers power sport. it really did make a big difference to my td4, i had a 05 vectra before and this beats it hands down now.:D
