Two weeks of ownership of MY2004 Freelander with TD4 140k miles. I was very careful that there was no smoke under any circumstance when I was looking for my freebie, so I was a bit worried when I saw some yesterday. While having the tyres changed, I took the opportunity to get a free alignment check (it is way off) and the shop left the landy idling for about 10 minutes. When I drove off, I noticed that for the first couple of miles I got a lot of white/blue smoke under acceleration, something I have not seen before. I have driven the truck since, and not seen any smoke under acceleration. I do get smoke for a few seconds after starting, and it can be a bit lumpy for the first 20 seconds or so. Is this an indication of something sinister about to happen? I have a PCV filer ready to fit, after reading some topics on here - Great site by the way!

where are you ? if here in the uk or some other cold climate then getting smoke on first thing start up could be your heater plugs not fully getting hot and may need replacement get the crank case filter changed along with a oil change also air filter it all adds to problem with the engine breathing.
