Hi all,

I have a little dilema.

My Rangie now runs on 265/75/R16 BFG AT.
My spare wheel is standard size 235/70/R16

I was wondering..if I have a flat, what do I do? I am thinking that this isn't a problem for the diff, but it can be for the VC.

Either get the spare to have the same diameter, or don't bother taking the spare out with you. You could use that spare to get out of somewhere dangerous (say the side of a fast flowing road), but for the most part it is an expensive repair bill waiting to happen.

Seeing as how the rolling radius of your tyres is 252.55 cm and the rolling radius of your spare is 231.03 cm. It will give big problems to the diff and the VC if run for any length of time.

can you explain a little please? what exactly is the problem?

The diff on the axle with the smaller tire shouldn't have a problem, it would be like driving in circles so the only problem would be the vcu. what if i remove the propshaft? Remember, this is temporary solution..for 30 miles tops.

30 miles is too far on that setup. It is 2 and a half inches difference. Less than a mile up the road to get out of danger.

Although there is a speed difference when turning a circle, not the 6MPH difference you'll get running such a steep change in size.

If you dropped the shaft then no drama. But you're better off just not bothering or getting a larger spare.

The difference in the rolling radius is 21 cm or just over 8 inches. And you are going to drive 30 miles like that. You would be well advised to have a rethink.

Common problem. All sorts of ways round it. Some more refined than others. The price you pay for big wheels unfortunately.
