small box reciever under dash

Hi, Ive found a small ir reciever under the passenger side dash, were the wire goes i aint got a clue. Is this standard on freelanders and what use does it have or is this something that has been added or left in before i bought it, its about 6 cm x 3 cm in size. It looks like it may have been mouted on the dash by the pillar. Many thanks

Is yours a TD4 with a fuel burning heater? There is an option to have a remote control to fire up the heater... could be the receiver from that?

Could it be a mobile phone receiver?

I dont know what your supposed to point at it... I will have to take a photo of it and post it, Hopefully someone has come across it before..

Bit of a long shot (and quite late...) but could it just be the cover on the diagnostic socket?

Is it grey in colour?? With a clip off lid??

If so its related to your head unit.
