Hi Fellow disco owners.
My 1995 TDI ES Auto Disco is really sluggish going up hill. Along the flat she's fine (though accelertion is not fantastic) but up hill the power drfits off quite rapidly necessitating dropping down to 3rd then 2nd. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Have read threads that talk about lift pumps and may give that a go but any other thoughts would be apreciated.

Don't want to get rid of her but it's getting near to it unless I can sort her out!.

Sounds like a classic case of clogged fuel filters to me.

New fuel filter (£1) , drain sedimenter (free), and have another go.

THEN worry about a £15 lift pump.

Cool many thanks will check.........I wasn't aware there was a sedimenter at the rear of the car! You learn something new every day.

Will post the result.

Cheers

Paul.

your supposed to ajust the tappet clearance on a service

blank off the egr and a new hose give it a good clean (get rid of the marmite)
i did this a few weeks ago on my 95 300tdi auto now run as go as new not slugish at all pulls soooooo much better low down.

ahh reet..well i aint done me service yet as i have another 130 mile's to clock up before it's time...

now a know's i will comply and ajust me tappetty thing's ;) :D

I think I'll shop around for a kit this time - looks like it works out a lot cheaper!

By the way, make sure either you don't need or that you've got the half moon things for the rocker cover gasket before you chuck your old one on the floor in amongst the muck, stand on it etc. I didn't do this once but luckily I managed to salvage the old one and it was ok.

I think you're supposed to change the gasket every 5 times it comes off or summat like that.

Have a look at the turbo boost pressure senser located passenger side bulkhead in engine bay . should be little multiplug and plastic pipe . If pipe is not connected symptoms will be low power and early upshifting of gears resulting in poor towing and uphill power
