Hi,

My new 90 has a lttile issue and would apprieciate any help solving it.

Basiclywhen Ilift off the power / brake the back end feels twitchy and unstable.

Only does it when letting off the power as the weight transfers when slowing.

Anyone have any ideas?, Theguy I bought it from said it needed new trailing arm bushes?

thanks

Trailing arm bushes, a-frame ball joint.

Check the wheel nuts on the rear wheels. And the wheel bearings.

More than likely bushes or ball joint though

Do you have to pump your brakes at all, if so on my td5 90 its normally a wheel bearing starting to let go.
I think it will be the bushes get a bar on them & see if you have any movement.

Hi,

Cheers for the help sp far,

They look visably ok but will go get a bar and give them a wiggle.

The brakes do take a bit of pressing but work well

acutaly just looked at them again and they are squashed down more at one side than the other. Couldnt move them much though.

The defender also came with a 3" lift it.

dont think they are cranked,

Also when I shake the wheel 12-6 there is a little movement with a slight clang noise. almost like the wheel is loose? wheel bearings?

Check the panhard rod bushes as well.

When done properly body lifts are OK (not my cup of tea though) but when done badly they can be lethal. My guess is the fella that did the lift has been unable to correct the suspension setup and squirrely handling and sold it on.

he had it for 6 years so probably would have sold it on before then it that was the case, and it was all done my mike aitken 4x4.

He may have not been bothered by the handling but I am so will be getting this sorted as a priority.

cheers

Wheel bearing gone sounds likely

as was mentioned earlier, cranked radius arms for the rear and castor corrected front arms make all the difference to the handling and the life of the bushes, why not just treat it to a poly bush kit which will cover off the trailing arm and panhard rod bushes mentioned already and once youve sorted any wheel bearings that should make quite a difference

this is going into a local landy guy with his own workshop "martins landys" just down the road from me.

He jacked the front and rear up and thinks the wheel bearings just need adjusted, the bushes are fine used a big pry bar and no movement.

He said one of the pins on the front needs done and there is slight play in the steering joint.

going in on thursday.
