sloppy defender gearchange

On our new defender the gear selection/change is less than positive. It this something that can be sorted by changing/renewing anything in turret housing etc?
Or is this just a characteristic of an '85 defender? I don't expect it to be brand new but a little more positive would be nice!

Bias plate

top plate?? is it one unit or circlip,ball joint etc?

they get play in ball/turret but remove and check allen screw holding yoke

Its the Bias plate - can break - replace or weld up.

Call Nick at Welcome - CONQUEROR 4X4 - he makes strengthened ones.

bias plate 3 quid if that on lt77

there no bias plate on defender 2 x spring either side of turret

on another note my chauffeur is collecting me tomorrow and a ben bracken single malt is slipping down nicely.

do not over tighten or pin in ball will break

and allen screw under turret

I'm assuming it's fairly obvious when u get in there as never done one before and no manual yet.

you dont need one just remove gaiter then gaiter on turret bit tricky ,remove tunnel if possible ,remove 4x bolt holding turret

Slap a couple if pics up if it's not too late please fella! I think I need to check mine, the stick wobbles quite abit when in gear, 1st and 2nd are worse and 5th no movement at all! Makes me think sumat else is worn.
