I have some problems regarding my Freelander since that date I bought. Saying first things first; I had “no heat in cabin” problem sorted out and am focusing on “slight vibration at idle” issue now…
Engine starts and revs normally but, it is vibrating very slightly at idle. When I get to the exhaust pipe outlet side, I can hear “puffing” sound repeating almost twice a second. As far as I guess, it seems kind of misfire because of timing belt tuning done by the previous owner’s mechanic. Since this forum has many experts on Freelander and KV6 engine, I will be more than happy to see your opinions here, before going to the mechanic or attempting to do some maintenance work by myself in my garage…She is equipped with the latest LPG system and this vibration has been occurring on both gas and LPG modes…
Here are some clues that may help you understand the situation a bit more:
· At idle, even if the idle is not smooth; when I touch the Freelander body to feel the vibration, I cannot physically feel that much unless focus my attention on engine running sounds. And, no significant fluctuating in RPM indicator strangely enough. When engine revving or during driving, it cannot be felt like nothing is wrong with it except for feeling like power loss as this engine running on 2, 3 or 4 cylinders not to supply enough torque especially on up hills.
· She burns a lot of gas and LPG as well. This makes me guess if it is related with the little bit wrong timing belt adjustment. After fine tuning of the LPG system, LPG consumption will be reduced according to the LPG shop. They say the system is brand new and needs fine tuning after driving 1500 km on LPG…
· No black smoke from the exhaust pipe at idle and during revving.
· Odometer shows 124000 km without any instrument cluster change.
