Starting last Sunday I notice on a short journey the engine seems to drop a cylinder. Added to this I also noticed the turbo ( recon unit fitted about two year ago ) making a high pitched whine! Thinking of replacing the injectors first - any advise?
Making matters worse I removed the air pipe on the turbo to see if I could feel any play - none evident and no oil leak, however I felt the back pressure on the crank case was way to high! So I gave a quick rev and the fookin turbo pulled a rag in!! Took an hour to get it out! What a divot!!! Mine is a puma model 2.4 engine

new turbo then, had it felt like it lost power prior

When you say 'drop a cylinder', do you mean a big loss of power, or the engine was bouncing around with an imbalance and loss of power?

Worth easing the injectors out for a look. Mine started running a bit rough, especially when cold. Should have checked injectors earlier cos it carped the engine. Not cheap but, IMO, worth getting them checked and refurbed if you are in any doubt about them.

Taking them out today as I wonder if the seal was leaking?
Mines a 300Tdi, so different injection system. Plus, I ran mine for several weeks with it running a bit rough at start up. I suspected the FIP which turned out to be a major mistake. My problem was on cylinder No1, which was running hot, apparently because the injector was making it run lean. The nozzle of that injector was a much lighter colour than the other three because of the heat. I think I've got pictures somewhere. If you have an injector issue and you've only ran it for a week, the nozzle evidence may not be as noticeable.

I will report back when I get them out, but it will be later as I am off th the Man U match. Fingers crossed its a simple issue.

Puma injectors a VERY pricey and need codes entering into the management system. Might need a main dealer to enter codes? (I know nanocom can't do it). Try a diagnostics first to verify it is an injector fault?

Cheers - someone else has said this! They also said they are sequential so have to go back in same place!! I have had issues with transit injection before and it's the same engine so will ask our main dealer once I have put

well ! its now like new thank god after nearly £650.
firstly removed all the injectors to find that they were loose as the seals had gone! this was causing the crankcase compression! problem was that two were absolutely pitted so I have had to replace them as the trator has 125k and they were original, secondly noticed the turbo was ever slightly loose - I can only put this down to incorrect fixing studs that have came loose with expansion and contraction. sorted that and replaced the gasket - cleaned out all. Had to book into specialist to re-learn the computer with the new injectors and he also said I had a sensor issue for the fuel pressure - replaced this and now is back to perfect with a slightly quieter motor! glad its all sorted but gutted about the price - buts that's LR for you.

A diesel wont be damaged by running hotter becuase it's lean, thats how a diesel works, if you want it to go slower/decelerate/idle you just reduce the fuelling, or increase it for going faster
