Slight Hesitation

I wonder if I have a slight condensation issue...

You may recall when my top coolant hose exploded, resulting in coolant EVERYWHERE?!

Well, for a couple of weeks after, I would get the odd hesitation just as she started warming up.

Now it's back and happening more often.

The plugs, leads, O2 sensors, oil, filters were all changed at 86k, she's now at 92k, so I really do not suspect any of these are needing replaced as they were good quality items.

So, is it entirely possible I may still have some coolant hiding in the plug lead caps which could cause this hesitation/slight stutter upon moving off at lights?

It's perfect from cold 1st thing, but after a bit, I put foot down and she tends to hold back. Once she gets going again she's off like a race horse.

Or could it be something more sinister?

Bare in mind, my engine has around 25k miles on it having been replaced under warranty before I owned the car.

That'll be all...

I do believe we are speaking about the man with the big 'ammer :eek:

I am convinced it is because of the burst coolant hose! Never ever had a problem like this before hand...

Well, pretty much everything under the bonnet got a nice coating of coolant, but she drove home beautifully with no hint of any problem. It was only when I got the hose three days later and fired her up (again, no problem starting) I went for a drive. Once the heat started building there was a teeny hesitation from pulling away.

It's not huge, it's just "there" and I can't see any other cause.

Another thing I noticed yesterday, there appears to be oil leaking right at the front under the bleed off pipes for the air suspension. It's black looking, but the engine oil is gold coloured so def not that. How much am I looking at :confused::D
 
Hi Grrrrr, I meant the pipes that allow the air to escape when lowering. I just called them bleed off pipes. Unless the gearbox cooling pipes could be leaking! It may be red, but looks black on tarmac surface....
 
AFAIK the EAS vents back out through the dryer and valve block and out the thick filter nearest the bulkhead. There are black breather pipes at the back of the engine for the axles and gearbox. At the front for tge fogs.

just occurred to me, does this engine have any sort of vacuum advance?

Bloomin eck lad, you don't arf ask some difficult questions :p

I have a pair of pipes behind front passenger side headlamp that come up like an upside down snorkel.

Anyhoo, I rather think it is gearbox oil because the gear-changes have started getting clunky lately. But the hesitation disappeared today after a long drive o_O:rolleyes:

The more I think about it, the more I think the oil may be from the box as it is right at the front, where I think the gearbox oil pipes meet the rad...

I foretell of a large bill heading my way :(

Who cares, I've done bloody well off George so far ;)

Yes I did... However, on reflection I am simply guessing it is red, but looks black on the tarmac. I'll be checking later and reporting back.
 
Can't find a leak at the gearbox pipework where they go into the rad! I did find a gearbox breather pipe near the bulkhead, it melted on the exhaust manifold, so I tid what was left with a cable tie. I can join the snorkel part with a bit of fuel hose I'm sure.

No leaks! Engine oil fine, no obvious leaks. So it's entirely possible I parked at someone else's drip and it looked like it came from George!

Drove 40 miles hooked a car on the "A" frame and towed it 40 miles back. During the tow, my mpg got better and better... The Rangey is an enigma o_O

Was water able to enter the gearbox from what was left of the breather? That wouldn't be nice!
 
I think I may have discovered my hesitation problem.

There is a tiniest of "growls" from the drivers side, either manifold or where it joins the cats.

If that is the case, a leak, even a tiny one, will affect the O2 sensor and give me a hesitation under load (as in pulling away at junction, etc) it will also affect the kickdown as has been happening.

So, getting that checked out Monday.

All good fun so far :p
